Dancers perform at Pioneer Home

Gottsche physical therapist and dance instructor Tess Slapper took two groups of dancers to perform for the seniors at the Wyoming Pioneer Home.

Slapper said two different classes performed.

"The first was a Creative Movement class, made up of 3-5 year-olds," she said. "They performed two songs - 'Peanut Butter Jelly Time' and 'Return to Winnie the Pooh Corner.'"

The other class that performed was a Jazz class for ages 6 and up, Slapper said.

"Most of the girls, and one boy, performed for their first time," she said. "It was their first time performing and first time dancing this summer."

Slapper said 35-40 kids participated. The younger group wore gold, sequined headbands, while the older group wore purple, sequined headbands.

"They danced and then they all did a walk through the cafeteria so all the older folks could see them and say, 'hello' and 'thank you,'" she said.

The seniors at the Pioneer Home enjoyed the show, Slapper said.

"They loved it," she said. "I think they enjoyed seeing the little kids come and visit and especially at their young age and not very experienced."

Slapper said it was more about performing in front of a crowd for the dancers.

"It was more about performing and getting used to being in front of a crowd," she said. "They had a lot of fun."

Slapper said she plans to have her classes perform at the Pioneer Home a few times a year, with the next time around Christmas.

Slapper said she will also be teaching dance classes through the recreation district in September including ballet, tap and jazz for older girls as well. All of the details are not yet available, but anyone with questions can call the recreation district at 864-3767.
