PAWS tests results for RWE and TMS releaseda

The Spring 2016 statewide testing results were released last week by the Wyoming Department of Education.

The results show each grade level’s proficiency in math, reading and science in comparison to 2015 scores.

In the Hot Springs County School District, Ralph Witters Elementary and Thermopolis Middle School have taken the PAWS test.

In grade 3, 9.43 percent of students performed below basic in math and 16.98 percent in reading. Students performing basic occurred in 30.19 percent in math and 30.19 percent in reading. Students performed proficient at 45.28 percent in math and 33.96 percent in reading. Advanced proficiency occurred in 15.09 percent in math and 18.87 percent in reading. The total percent of those performing at basic and below was 39.62 percent in math and 47.17 percent in reading. The total percent of those performing at proficient and advanced was 60.38 percent in math and 52.83 percent in reading.

In grade 4, 7.41 percent of students performed below basic in math, 16.67 percent in reading and 11.11 percent in science. Students performing basic occurred in 33.3 percent in math, 24.07 percent in reading and 40.74 percent in science. Students performed proficient at 53.07 percent in math, 44.44 percent in reading and 33.33 in science. Advanced proficiency occurred in 5.56 percent in math, 14.81 percent in reading and 14.81 percent in science. The total percent of students performing at basic and below was 40.74 percent in math, 40.74 percent in reading and 51.85 percent in science. The total percent of students performing at proficient and advanced was 59.26 percent in math, 59.26 percent in reading and 48.15 in science.

In grade 5, 6.67 percent of students performed below basic in math and 17.78 percent in reading. Students performing basic occurred in 28.89 percent in math and 24.44 percent in reading. Students performed proficient at 42.22 percent in math and 35.56 percent in reading. Advanced proficiency occurred in 22.22 percent in math and 22.22 percent in reading. The total percent of students performing at basic and below was 35.56 percent in math and 42.22 percent in reading. The total percent of students performing at proficient and advanced was 64.44 percent and 57.78 percent in reading.

In grade 6, 4.35 percent of students performed below basic in math and 15.22 percent in reading. Students performing basic occurred in 21.74 percent in math and 17.39 percent in reading. Students performed proficient at 47.83 percent in math and 36.96 percent in reading. Advanced proficiency occurred in 26.09 percent in math and 30.43 percent in reading. The total percent of students performing at basic and below was 26.09 percent in math and 32.61 percent in reading. The total percent of students performing at proficient and advanced was 73.91 percent in math and 67.39 percent in reading.

In grade 7, 6.52 percent of students performed below basic in math and 26.67 percent in reading. Students performing basic occurred in 32.61 percent in math and 17.78 percent in reading. Students performed proficient at 47.83 percent in math and 40 percent in reading. Advanced proficiency occurred in 13.04 percent in math and 15.56 percent in reading. The total percent of students performing at basic and below was 39.13 percent in math and 44.44 percent in reading. The total percent of students performing at proficient and advanced was 60.87 percent in math and 55.56 percent in reading.

In grade 8, 4.76 percent of students performed below basic in math, 19.05 percent in reading and 6.35 percent in science. Students performing basic occurred in 25.4 percent in math, 25.4 percent in reading and 38.1 percent in science. Students performed proficient at 47.62 percent in math, 42.86 percent in reading and 39.68 percent in science. Advanced proficiency occurred in 22.22 percent in math, 12.7 percent in reading and 15.87 percent in science. The total percent of students performing at basic and below was 30.16 percent in math, 44.44 percent in reading and 44.44 percent in science. The total percent of students performing at proficient and advanced was 69.84 percent in math, 55.56 percent in reading and 55.56 percent in science.
