Wedding of the Waters boat ramp now to remain open during parking lot project

The boat ramp at Wedding of the Waters access area near Thermopolis will remain open during a scheduled parking lot expansion project July 11-15.

Brad Sorensen Cody Region Habitat and Access supervisor said instead of closing the entire site during the construction process, the public will have access to the boat ramp on the Bighorn River to launch or take-out watercraft.

“Although the boat ramp will remain open to the public, no parking will be available during the week scheduled for the parking lot expansion,” Sorensen said.

Wind River Canyon Whitewater and Fly Fishing will allow boaters to park at their headquarters approximately 2.5 miles north of the access site, and will offer a shuttle service to those who wish to use the boat ramp during scheduled construction. Interested parties should contact the business directly at 864-9343. During the week of July 11-15, Game and Fish plan to double the amount of parking area for boaters, fisherman and other recreation users at Wedding of the Waters access area. The expansion of the parking lot is long overdue and is needed to prevent parking on the highway or off of the existing paved parking area, which has led to resource damage in recent years.
