On the Record policy

It is the Independent Record’s policy that all people arrested or cited under the “Accidents,” “Sheriff’s office” or “Police calls” in the On the Record section are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Sheriff’s department

Tuesday, June 21

9:28 a.m. Caller reported seeing a Rottweiler puppy being dropped off on Light Mountain Road.

2:07 p.m. Report of a dump truck, driven by Calvin Turnbaugh, 46, overturning on West Sunnyside. There were no injuries, though antifreeeze and fuel were leaking. The fire department washed down the vehicle as necessary. Shingles and nails were also scattered over the road.

9:17 p.m. Caller reported domestic ducks and geese on the road, almost causing accidents. The animals were taken off the road.

Wednesday, June 22

9:03 a.m. Deputy was dispatched in reference to a subject who was upset about a neighbor’s chickens getting in the garden. The animals’ owner was asked to secure them.

10:28 a.m. Report of vandalism at Legend Rock. The incident is under investigation.

5:18 p.m. Deputy located a vehicle with its hood up on Highway 120, and called a tow truck for it.

7:25 p.m. Report of a vehicle driving at slow speed through the state park, with the driver suspected of watching people. The driver appeared to be doing nothing illegal.

9:37 p.m. Report of a fire in the canyon. Deputy was unable to locate.

Thursday, June 23

3:44 p.m. Report of a hit and run accident on Highway 20 South. A vehicle backed into a motorcycle in a parking lot.

6:24 p.m. Caller reported a $15 fuel drive off. The vehicle in question had Washakie County plates.

Friday, June 24

7:21 p.m. Gary Galovich was arrested for alleged driving under the influence.

Saturday, June 25

4:46 a.m. The burglary of a safe at the Southside Travel Center was reported, and is currently being investigated.

3:29 p.m. Steve King was arrested on a warrant, and transported from Shoshoni, for an alleged fraudulent check.

3:34 p.m. A call came in regarding someone who was stranded in the river. The individual was able to get out.

Sunday, June 26

12:03 a.m. The door of the elementary school was unsecured. The building was secured.

5:02 p.m. Report of a black flatbed on Highway 20 North that is all over the highway. The vehicle was not located.

Monday, June 27

8:18 p.m. Report of a rock in the state park, near the boat launch area, with a large “HR” sprayed on it. The incident is being investigated.

8:41 p.m. Report of goats on the highway near mile marker 142 on Highway 20 North.

Tuesday, June 21

9:53 a.m. Caller reported a gun stolen from his vehicle.

4:31 p.m. Report of dogs at large at Candy Jack Park. The animals were already secured when an officer arrived.

Wednesday, June 22

5:47 a.m. A subject drove away from a gas pump, with the gas nozzle still in the vehicle’s tank. The breakaway on the hose worked well, and the hose and nozzle were reattached. There was no damage to the tank.

10:22 a.m. Call with regard to fraud by Candyland Circus. While the circus is real, they have not shown for some dates after pre-selling tickets.

2:59 p.m. Report of a dog that caught a ride with the mail carrier. The dog was later delivered to its home.

Thursday, June 23

7:07 a.m. A parking complaint was called in. The owner of the vehicle was contacted, and he moved it.

11:17 a.m. Caller reported receiving fraudulent calls with regard to a credit card, which he doesn’t own. He was given a phone number and online address at which he could further address the fraud.

7:25 p.m. Request for an assist with probation and parole. No contact was made with a male subject.

9:07 p.m. Complainant referred to a vehicle playing loud music. The driver was contacted and advised he would turn it off.

Friday, June 24

12:29 a.m. Caller reported seeing male subject around the BOCES building. The subject was not found.

10:16 a.m. Subject reported losing a set of keys, along with a cell phone in a pink case.

1:02 p.m. A female subject complained about a picture on Facebook, and was told she would have to contact the site to have it taken down.

4:38 p.m. A Winnebago driver stated another driver had hit his vehicle. The driver was found and contacted, but he did not think he had hit the Winnebago.

Saturday, June 25

12:56 a.m. Report of a disturbance in the 100 block of East Park. Upon arrival, all subjects had fled. The disturbance was verbal but it was unknown if it turned physical.

1:58 p.m. REDDI report, though the vehicle in question was located, parked at home, with nobody inside.

Sunday, June 26

4:37 p.m. Report of a vehicle running the stop light. The vehicle was not located.

8:48 p.m. Report of a nuisance yard that has a large number of pallets, as well as overgrowth. The owner of the property was contacted.

Monday, June 27

9:06 a.m. Caller reported an employee was recently let go. However, a search of his computer uncovered some pornography, though it was not illegal.

11:07 a.m. Caller reported having sold chickens and ducks to someone from out of town, and the check came back because of insufficient funds.

8:14 p.m Caller reported finding “HR” spray painted on the east wall of a building. The matter is being investigated.

Circuit court

A case against Matthew Schwan has been bound over to district court. Schwan faces a charge of aggravated vehicular homicide.

A hearing on a sentence reduction for Chance Jacobsen is scheduled for July 15 at 11 a.m.

William Forrest was found guilty of domestic battery, and sentenced to 180 days in jail with 159 days suspension and one year supervised probation. Fees and fines are $190. Forrest was bound over to district court on a charge of applying pressure on throat or neck.

Bryce Harvey was found guilty of battery, and sentenced to 30 days in jail with 30 days suspension and six months unsupervised probation. Fees and fines are $190, and restitution is $5,000.

Omarillee Bridges was found guilty of failure to appear and driving with a suspended license, and sentenced to 90 days in jail with 86 days suspension and six months unsupervised probation. Fees and fines are $280.
