School district ending partnership with Fremont County BOCES in 2017

The Hot Springs County School District decided not to renew partnership with Fremont County BOCES beginning with the 2017-18 school year and approved staffing recommendations at a meeting on May 24.

Superintendent Dustin Hunt told board members that Uinta School District and Park County School District have both voted to join the Hot Springs Early Childhood BOCES. Hot Springs County School District could choose to opt out of Fremont County BOCES by giving them a year’s notice. With the valuation reduction, the sports medicine program will need to be funded through general funds and not Fremont County BOCES beginning in the 2016-17 school year. Funding for the early childhood program for the 2016-17 school year will take the entire funds available through Fremont County BOCES and still need additional funding from other sources.

Trustee Jennifer Axtell said a large amount is paid to Fremont County BOCES for administrative costs. Due to the way Hot Springs County School District uses the program, the district does not receive the same administrative benefits as Fremont County School Districts. The board agreed that the Hot Springs County School District will not renew their partnership with Fremont County BOCES beginning with the 2017-18 school year.

The board accepted the resignation notice from Brad Morrison as coach effective May 27, 2016 and approved the following high school coaching/sponsor duties: Head Football Coach – Rob Anderson, Assistant Football Coaches – Cory Sova and Aaron Taylor, Head Volleyball Coach – Shannon Hill, Assistant Volleyball Coach – Catelyn Deromedi, Head Cross Country Coach – Brenna Abel, Head Golf Coach – Jake Smith, Head Cheer Coach – Tracy Medina, Head Drama Coach – Mary McGillivray, Head Speech Coach – Cindy Glasson, Head Boys Basketball Coach – Kevin Gerber, Assistant Boys Basketball Coach – Rob Anderson, Head Girls Basketball Coach – Cory Sova, Head Wrestling Coach – CJ Scholl, Assistant Wrestling Coach – Jake Smith, Head Track & Field Coach – Ernie Mecca, Assistant Track & Field Coaches – Cory Sova and Brenna Abel, Vocal/Instrumental/Pep Band – Dustin Olsen, Yearbook Sponsor - Steve Radabaugh, Special Olympics Coach – Tom Olsen, Concessions Director – Jessica Smith, Student Council – Alex McLean, Activities Director – Brandon Deromedi and Assistant Activities Director – Aaron Taylor.
