Marie Urist

Marie J Urist, 101, died Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2016, in Worland.

Born July 18, 1914, in Bridger, Mont., she was the daughter of Jasper and Mabel (Smith) Shriver. During her school years she delivered milk by horse and cart from her father's dairy in Bridger. She excelled in athletics, which included track and her favorite sport, basketball.

On March 18, 1933, Marie married William Urist in Billings, Mont. In 1943 the family moved to Thermopolis and to Kirby and Gebo in 1946. From 1956 to 1965 she operated the water works between Kirby and Gebo. They then moved to Grass Valley, Calif., where Marie cared for her ailing father. The couple returned to Thermopolis in 1990 where Mr. Urist died in 1992.

A member of the Federated Community Church, Marie was active in the VFW Auxiliary and American War Mothers. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, quilting, embroidery, crafts, puzzles, reading and watching Westerns and wrestling on TV.

She is survived by her son, Ellis "Tom" Urist of Billings, Mont .; daughters, Joe'Ann (Marvin) Park of Liberal, Kan., Patsy (John) Dorman of Thermopolis, Patty (Art) Lebolo of Mills, Wyo. and Sandra Brown of Worland; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great great-grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; stepmother, Bessie Shriver; son, William Jr .; husband, Bill; daughter-in-law, Ann Urist; grandson, William; brother, Ellis Shriver; and sister, Zelda Lewis.

Graveside services were held Wednesday, Feb. 10 at Monument Hill Cemetery with Rev. Chuck Cooper of Community Federated Church officiating.
