William Pebbles

William Fred Pebbles, 87, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 21, 2016.

William Fred Pebbles was born on May 29, 1930, to Robert Pebbles Sr. and Hazel (Elliott) McNeil. William was known by everyone as "Bill." Bill graduated from Hot Springs County High School. While in school Bill played and excelled in football, basketball, and track. At a young age Bill began working in the oil field as a drilling rig hand. Bill "broke out with" and was trained by his brother Robert Pebbles, Jr.

Bill enlisted and served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. Bill received an honorable discharge and returned to Wyoming and Thermopolis. Bill again began working in the oil field as a rig hand when work was available. He also worked as a cowboy and ranch hand for area ranches. He also worked in construction. Bill at one point even tried his hand at bareback bronc riding. He learned at an early age from his family that honest wages were earned by hard honest work. Bill continued this creed throughout his life in everything he did.

He met and married Esther Ann Long, the woman that would be the meaning of his life, on Jan. 19, 1959. Esther brought two children into this union, marriage and home, Russell Richard and Regina Richard. Three sons were born to Bill and Esther Pebbles early in their marriage; William Fred Pebbles II, Michael Eugene Pebbles, and Daniel Jo Pebbles.

Bill and Esther lived the majority of their married years in Thermopolis, Hot Springs County. Living at Red Lane, Kirby Creek, and various locations in Thermopolis.

He spent over 40 working in the oil fields drilling oil wells. His experience, ability, and knowledge was matched by a few and accessed by many.

His later years were spent in the company of his wife Esther, caring for, enjoying their many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. It was in these years that Bill shone the brightest loving and caring for Esther until her death in 2009. He then moved to the Pioneer Home where he lived until his death.

Bill's enjoyment in life was his wife Ester, his family, and friends. His legacy will be the many examples of how he lived, loved, and worked. We here have lost a light, while heaven has gained a star.

Bill is survived by his daughter; four sons and their spouses; many grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and numerous family and friends.

A remembrance service will be held on May 29, 2016, at Riverside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers or donations, Bill would request a kindness be extended to a person perceived to be in need.
