Wrestlers headed to Greybull, Worland

Bobcat wrestlers competed Friday and Saturday at the Powell Invitational to open their season.

Nearly 30 teams competed in pools Friday to qualify for the varsity brackets on Saturday.

Coach C.J. Scholl noted that it was a good learning experience for his young team, that the season was young, and now “It’s time to go to work.”

Senior Louie Castle led the Bobcat contingent with a 3rd place finish by dominating a Lander foe who had defeated him earlier in the tourney scoring four takedowns and an escape for a 9-5 victory.

Sophomore Cullen Becher wrestled to a 5th place finish in the varsity brackets. Also qualifying for the varsity brackets was freshman Jon Hagen.

Competing for the Bobcats in Powell were Austin Ireland, Chase White, Mikey Wilkinson, Koy Meyers, Colter Hansen, Ethan Becher, Jeff VanAntwerp, Tyson Tobar, and Tom Severan.

Both Severan and VanAntwerp garnered 4th place finishes in the junior varsity side of the brackets. Neither prospects Milton Peden nor Chandler Maddock had accumulated enough practices to participate at Powell, but they will be in action in the upcoming week.

Thursday will see Thermopolis in Greybull for a dual. Friday and Saturday they will be in Worland for The Battle of the Big Horns tournament.
