Drama Club headed to state

The young thespians of the Hot Springs County High School Drama Club wowed local audiences with some great performances during the Fall Drama Showcase.

The Drama Club will be heading to Laramie December 3-5 for the State Drama Competition. This year's event will be hosted by the University of Wyoming; with events that pit the young actors against other performers from schools across the state.

Students are judged on their design and performance abilities in the following categories: lighting, publicity, makeup (fantasy and realistic), set, costume, original script, monologues (dramatic and humorous), duets (dramatic and humorous) and a main stage show.

Choosing a published play, the students will research the period, settings, and different design techniques to help guide their decision on what to perform.

They have constantly refined their designs for seven weeks based on rubrics used by the International Thespian Society and Wyoming Educators of Secondary Theatre for each of the separate events. The students receive coaching from the director, assistant director and technical director.

With some of the events having a small number of participants, the performances given at the Fall Drama Showcase will be used as an audition for what may go to state.

Teacher and director Mary McGillvray said "I am very proud of the work the Drama Club has done in preparing for state. We have such talented students who are driven and creative."

Hot Springs County High School Drama Club members are Aressa Goodrich, Amanda Dinsmore, Kameron Olsen, Darren Leonhardt, Fawn Rush, Ben Manning, Aaron Goodrich, Ryan Slagle, Aaron Hanson, Dakota Prosser, Mikayla Lanik, Savana Meier, Gabriella Lanik, Danielle Randolph, and Hunter Kessler. The director is Mary McGillivray, assistant director Jenny Manning and technical director is Ron Philips.
