Friday night's Friends of NRA banquet raised over $14,000, half of which will remain in Wyoming to be awarded as grants for local gun clubs, 4-H shooting clubs and other organizations that support and encourage safe firearm use.
An estimated 120 people attended Friday night's banquet. Although there were 150 total tickets available for the event, participation was up from last year's event.
The banquet had to compete for participants against Hot Springs High School sporting events, which also took place Friday night just across the street from the fairgrounds.
The highest selling item of the night was a special edition of the NRA's 2015 Gun of the Year, a Kimber Pro Carry II 1911, which sold for $1,500. A total of 25 firearms were won during the event, both through raffles and the auction.
Just before the live auction, the Hot Springs County 4-H shooting sports program was awarded a grant from the NRA foundation totaling $22,503 to be used to purchase firearms, ammunition, and archery equipment for the club. The 4-H group had applied last year for the grant, which was raised by similar events held throughout the state and country.
