Rep. Mike Yin has introduced House Bill 71 to set clear rules for cash sales as pennies become harder to find. The federal government stopped making pennies in November 2025. The Federal Reserve has also cut back on sending pennies to banks. This has left Wyoming stores slowly decreasing their access to pennies. The Hot Springs Speech and Debate Team finished first place in 1A/2A at the annual Riverside Jurassic Classic Speech Tournament held at Riverside High School in Basin, Wyoming, on January 24, 2026. At approximately 5:10 a.m. on Thursday, January 15, two suspects forced entry into the Thermopolis Middle School and burglarized items from the buidling. The suspects were caught on cameras, which provided important details to law enforcement officials about their identities. The suspects ran from the building at approximately 5:40 a.m., shortly before an employee is shown arriving at the school. The Hot Springs County Commissioners held their first meeting of the new year on January 6, 2026. The commissioners were advised that the Kirby Creek Irrigation District was not in compliance with their filings with the Wyoming Secretary of State, and were in jeopardy of being dissolved as a result.
