    At the January 9 Thermopolis-Hot Springs Chamber of Commerce board meeting held at Big Horn Federal, during old business CEO Meri Ann Dorman said the State/Local Civic Bee is “moving forward” and will be a “fun and exciting time.” The Civic Bee will involve essays submitted by sixth through eight grades, who will write about problems in their community and how to fix them.     WY Walks for Seniors On January 31, WY Walks for Seniors is hosting a 45-minute guided tour at the Buffalo Bill Center of the West Museum in Cody beginning at 10 am. Everyone is welcome but only seniors and their caregivers are admitted for free when they join the morning walk and then they have the rest of the day in the museum to stroll.     The Hot Springs Speech and Debate Team continued their impressive season, bringing home a 1A/2A runner-up trophy at the large, dog-themed Roverton Speech and Debate Tournament held at Riverton High School on January 24-25, 2025. Ten students coached by Lyle Wiley, Alyssa Brown, Riley Jeffs, Markie Whitney, and Tyler Kay competed at the tournament that hosted twelve teams and over 280 entries.     At approximately 11:00 p.m. on Thursday January 9, the Thermopolis Fire Department was dispatched to the 1000 block of Clark Street for a reported structure fire with a possible trapped person.     The Star Plunge aquatic facility at Hot Springs State Park remains open to the public due to the Wyoming State Parks granting an extension of the expiration of its current management agreement. The agreement was set to expire on Dec. 31, 2024. According to Wyoming State Parks, that two week extension is to allow Star Plunge management additional time to work out a potential sale.
