A filing for a change of plea was recently submitted in a case against Kristy Samples, who was scheduled for trial May 18 and 19 in District Court. Samples is charged with burglary, which stems from a Sept. 20 incident during which Samples allegedly stole money and notebooks from her employer after she was relieved of her duties. Hot Springs County Assessor, Shelley Deromedi presented the abstract assessment roll for tax year 2017 to the county commissioners last week. The abstract is created using the tax rolls for the year, including agricultural lands, residential and commercial properties within the county. Hot Springs County’s Land Use Planning Commission held a public hearing March 17 to consider a Bed and Breakfast permit for Ruth Cotton of Cotton Farms, LLC. Cotton is requesting the permit for property north of town, which would not be a bed and breakfast in the traditional sense, but instead would be essentially a home-based business. Hot Springs County Emergency Management would like to ask residents on western streams, particularly Owl Creek, to be aware the State Engineer’s Office and Bureau of Reclamation fell there is potential for very high spring snow melt runoff this year. Though a lot of snow below 9,000 feet has already melted, a large snowpack remains in the high altitude peaks at the far west end of our county. According to the report, inflow to Boysen Reservoir is forecast to be 1,500,000 acre-feet (af), which is 278 percent of the 30-year average of 540,000 af. by Mark Dykes Tuesday evening, Thermopolis Town Council approved proposals of $25,000 and $30,000, for the Thermopolis Police Department to provide services to East Thermopolis. Currently, East Thermopolis pays $22,680 for police and animal control. The $25,000 figure is for law enforcement only, and the $30,000 is for both services. Should East Thermopolis decline the proposals, it would mean less income for the town. A sentencing for Darren Dumas scheduled for Monday has been continued. On April 19, Dumas was found guilty of strangulation of a household member and domestic battery.
