    Hot Springs County High School graduation will be Sunday, May 21 in the high school gym beginning at 2 p.m. Forty-nine members of the class of 2017 will receive their diplomas. Speakers will be Senator Mike Enzi and school board member Tobi Johansen. Valedictorians are Shayna Bauer, Chloe Crosby and Margaret Ryan. Salutatorian is Caleb DeCroo.   • Figures proposed for East Thermopolis services

    by Mark Dykes Tuesday evening, Thermopolis Town Council approved proposals of $25,000 and $30,000, for the Thermopolis Police Department to provide services to East Thermopolis. Currently, East Thermopolis pays $22,680 for police and animal control. The $25,000 figure is for law enforcement only, and the $30,000 is for both services. Should East Thermopolis decline the proposals, it would mean less income for the town. In an effort to keep the western heritage of shooting alive, the Governor’s Office has implemented a series of shooting competitions at various locations throughout Wyoming.     A sentencing for Darren Dumas scheduled for Monday has been continued. On April 19, Dumas was found guilty of strangulation of a household member and domestic battery. The charges state he beat Christy Dumas from Sept. 23-26, and impeded her breathing on Sept. 26. During the trial, the jury heard testimony regarding the couple’s relationship, as well as the injuries Christy received, though two different scenarios were presented as to how things got to the point of physical injury.     Thursday evening, the Thermopolis-Hot Springs Chamber of Commerce approved a motion to gift the Hessenthaler billboard south of town to Hot Springs County Travel and Tourism.     A verdict in a case against Anthony Haire was reversed, and the case itself remanded for a new trial, following a decision by the Wyoming Supreme Court on Monday. Haire was sentenced about a year ago to 8-10 years with the Wyoming Department of Corrections, on a charge of involuntary manslaughter. He was also given a one-year probation sentence on a reckless endangerment charge.     A slide on Thursday afternoon closed a portion of the Black Mountain Oil and Gas Field on public land on the Washakie/Hot Springs county line. The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) estimates the landslide to be approximately 10 acres with a depth of 20-30 feet. Baker received the sentence in November. However, it was suspended on a split sentence, resulting instead in a short jail sentence, followed by three years of supervised probation.     by Mark Dykes April precipitation totals across Wyoming were 150 to 160 percent of average. Precipitation numbers varied between near 250 percent of normal over the Tongue River Drainage in north central Wyoming to near 110 percent of normal over the Lower Green Basin in southwestern Wyoming. The current water year, October 2016 to April 2017, precipitation across Wyoming is averaging 140 to 150 percent of average. Mountain snowpack across Wyoming was 125 to 135 percent of median by early May....
