At the March 17 Travel and Tourism board meeting, Treasurer Matt Hughes gave the financial report. He updated their spreadsheet to reflect $38.3K in the board-approved budget plus up from carryover. The remaining carry-over balance is $24.2K. Hughes also reconciled the spreadsheet with their accountant data and made them agree with each other down to the penny. Wyoming Humanities explored the world of political cartoons as an integral component in the framework of journalism and democracy. The event featured a discussion between two highly regarded cartoonists in the field, Ryan Stolp and Greg Kearney. At the March Chamber of Commerce meeting under old business, the board voted to approve their 2021 strategic plan. According to Chamber Director Meri Ann Rush, they didn’t change much to it compared to last year with the exception of taking steps to educate the community about all the Chamber’s benefits. There will be a Cookie Jar Auction benefit for Alice Oneyear on March 13 at the VFW Post 2281 with a donation dinner at 5:30 p.m. The auction will follow the dinner. Alice is currently battling stage 4 Lung Cancer, she has completed three weeks of chemotherapy and is currently undergoing radiation treatments five days a week. At the February 18 Hot Springs County School District #1 Board meeting, business manager Chauncy Johnson provided a budget update for the current school year and a look at what 2022 funding might look like. As the Wyoming State Legislature works through bills that will affect school districts, Johnson provided information regarding how budget cuts could look at HSCSD#1 in the coming year.
