At the August 31, Hot Springs Health board meeting representatives of the hospital staff presented some statements during an Employee Listening Session about their concerns of a vaccination mandate from their employer. Several staff members were present and some spoke to the board. Due to a spike in COVID-19 cases, Hot Springs County School District made the decesion to move to online classes only last week. The Risen Son Christian School closed this year and school board member Bradyn Harvey said it is a staffing issue, not a financial issue. “Last year they had four teachers that taught from preschool up to third grade. They planned to move up to fourth grade this year as, of course, the students became older. Melissa Soneson is facing two counts of felony arson and other misdemeanor charges after allegedly starting two fires on Thursday, August 26. An $8.78 million slide stabilization/rock scaling project began on Tuesday, Aug. 31, alongside US20/WY789 through Wind River Canyon between Shoshoni and Thermopolis. The inductees for this year’s Bobcat Hall of Fame have been announced. Included are the 2009 Bobcat Football Team, Shawna (Buckner) Farrell, Tom Zupan and Jack Kuiper. Eric Kay of the local Mason Malta Lodge #17 has been successful in finding grant money to help them improve their building’s facade. The lodge is a 116-year-old building that was built in 1905. The Masons have done many local philanthropic charity events and they seek to do more. Lisa Beamer is the new agent owner of the Farmers Insurance office in Thermopolis. The previous agent was Robb Williamson, who moved back to Lander for family reasons. The Hot Springs County School Board was treated to an explanation of new federal food service guidelines from District Food Service Coordinator Hannah Brooks on Aug. 19, after she covered the success of the district’s summer food service program.
