    At the March 15 Thermopolis Town Council meeting held at Town Hall, Hot Springs County Emergency Planner Bill Gordon presented information on the Hazard Mitigation Plan. This plan was last approved in 2016 but now has been updated and reviewed. It’s 546 pages. However, there is a portion of the plan as an annex just for Hot Springs County, about 38 pages.     The Hot Springs County Commissioners held a brief meeting on March 15 at the Annex building with all three commissioners present. Starting off, county assessor Daniel Webber presented the tax rebate #1-22 - Parcel #6995 for the tax year 2019 (District 100) from Valkyrie Resources, LLC submitted by the Department of Revenue. The amount was $3,476.05. Webber said the rebate was due to a reporting error. The commissioners voted and passed to accept the rebate.   • Couple owns Kirby Creek Tannery

    Mark and Liz Dean have purchased the tannery portion of the business from Merlin's Hide Out. The front part of the building and the store are still owned by Merlin's Hide Out and they are separate entities. Kirby Creek Tannery currently has three full-time employees and a few others that are seasonal. Liz provided a tour of the tannery and she described the different stages involved.   • Coachmen Motel converted to storage units

    The location of the Coachmen Motel property is now being converted into storage units by property owner Marvin Meyer. There will be 38 storage units that will cost $80 per month. The units are 200 square feet. At this time, they are continuing to do work on the property and about 10 units will become available in the next two weeks. Also, Meyer said that they are remodeling two apartment units that are about 1,500 to 1,800 square feet with two bedrooms and one bath in each. The cost is yet to be determined.     At the March Travel and Tourism board meeting, treasurer Audra Dominguez presented the financial report. For the month of February, they collected $13,611.70 in lodging tax revenue, which is a change of 84% compared to the previous year. The board has never seen numbers this high before. Additionally, there are no local construction projects going on and therefore these numbers reflect actual tourism dollars.     Mishurda Mountain Ranches was sold on March 1, 2022. The Mishurda ranch situated between Klondike Peak and Guffy Peak totaled 15,070 acres and had been owned by the family for 24 years.     Man shot, killed by Gillette police GILLETTE (WNE) — A man was killed in a police shooting in Gillette Monday afternoon. Officers responded to the 500 block of East Lincoln Street for the report of a man, who has not been identified, shooting a handgun in the street.     The Bureau of Land Management will conduct prescribed burns in the Copper Mountain and Green Mountain areas this spring, beginning as soon as late March.     Last Friday, 145 students, family members and teachers from Connections Academy attended a field trip to the Wyoming Dinosaur Center. It was the first field trip for the group since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.
