    As October moves on, it's hard not to think of Halloween and the decorations that come with it, many of which are pumpkin-based. Gene Peterson got a surprise when he planted pumpkins this year, putting down 12-20 plants and seeds in some manure he got from the Hot Springs County Fairgrounds. Though he spread them out in a small area, they took off to Peterson's amazement. He chose to put up a sign to let people know they could come and pick the pumpkins.     The sun’s not shining as much these days, and soon the snow’s going to start flying — the perfect weather to stay indoors under a blanket with something warm and delicious. The Hot Springs County Senior Citizens Center is currently taking orders for their cinnamon rolls.     Hawk’s Avenue of Flags is currently taking orders for flags until Oct. 13, for those who want them displayed this Veterans Day. The Avenue was created in memory of Airman First Class Donald L. “Hawk” Hawkins, by his wife Betty and daughter Julie Lehman, but serves as a memorial for all veterans.
