    One-Call of Wyoming will host an underground facilities damage prevention education breakfast workshop on Wed. Feb. 21 at the Days Inn. The meeting is for Wyoming excavators, company owners, crew leaders, office administrators, anyone who requests locates and/or call 811.     Monday mornings Tricia McPhie, the maternal child health nurse with Hot Springs County Public Health, regularly meets with four moms to provide information and discussion through a program called Baby Steps. McPhie explained Baby Steps began about a year ago as a breastfeeding support group for mothers, then as the kids got older it "blossomed" into an hour of education, support and socialization for moms. She is also on-hand to connect mothers with the community resources available to them....

    A group of students at Hot Springs County High School is currently working on a "tiny house" as part of the school's new Trades class. Teacher Britton Van Heule explained an Industrial Arts teacher could not be found, so Principal, Breez Longwell Daniels, asked him what he could do. Thus the Trades class was created this past fall.     In their second meet of the season, the Hot Springs County High School Speech and Debate team brought home a solid third place finish from the Jackson tournament over the weekend. The key, of course, is getting speakers into the semi-final and final rounds as that is where team points come into play.     Josh Schmidt, a former U.S. Marine and veterans service officer from the Wyoming Veterans Commission, will conduct community outreach services in Wyoming cities through February, with two stops in Thermopolis this month.     The Hot Springs County Pioneer Association (Pioneers) recently announced the launch of a new project to engage the community in a historical effort to document family histories. The Pioneers have previously published a work called “Hot Springs County Memories from the Past” in 1996, and a supplement to that effort in 1998. The purpose of that project was to afford families that have deep roots in the area to share their family histories and then compile them for posterity to reference and enjoy.     Thermopolis Middle School came out on top in the Challenge of the Books held at the armory last week, competing against seven teams, to take first place. Begun in 2004, schools from around the Big Horn Basin compete against each other in a question and answer forum for six rounds.
