At Tuesday’s Hot Springs County Commissioners meeting during 2026 election of officers, Bob Aguiar was elected as chairman and Paul Galovich was elected as vice-chairman. Aguiar was elected to his first term as commissioner in 2024. He is a retired human resource manager and has volunteered 22 years working with 4-H youth. Aguiar replaces Tom Ryan as chairman. The Travel & Tourism Board met for their regular monthly meeting on December 16. The Board reviewed the status of their on-going projects, and discussed other future projects. Director Angie Guyon, reported that both the Town of Thermopolis and the Town of East Thermopolis have now approved the plan for installing wayfinding signs. Hot Springs County Assessor Daniel Webber announced that currently qualified Hot Springs County veterans or their surviving spouse should contact the assessor’s office by telephone to renew their Veteran’s Exemption for 2026 on their property taxes. If the applicant will be using the exemption for vehicle licensing, they will need to let the Treasurer’s Office know when they come in the courthouse to renew their registration. After a surely appreciated holiday break, the Bobcats and Lady Cats of Hot Springs County High School will be back in action this week. In the early season the two teams have each played a number of Class 3A and 4A teams, however, 2A competition has been slim. Several members of the Thermopolis Wrestling Club (TWC) traveled with Team Wyoming to Utah last weekend to compete first at the Christmas Clash Duals in Farmington and then at the Salt Lake Slam. The Christmas Clash was held at the Western Sports Park in Farmington, Utah, on January 2.
