The Thermopolis - Hot Springs County Chamber Board met on November 13, 2025 for their regular monthly meeting. After fully considering the issue, the board determined that given the experience from last summer’s event, the organization will not host the Demolition Derby in 2026. The turn out of driver’s for the 2025 event was low. The board discussed the overwhelming success of the Moonlight Madness event, which was held downtown on October 30. The Hot Springs County Travel & Tourism Board has announced that its Fall Photo Contest is now open for submissions. Photographers of all skill levels are encouraged to enter their photographic works. The contest runs three times per year, in the spring, summer and fall. “Wind River Canyon Work Train,” was recently announced as the winner of the Summer Contest, and was submitted by local resident, Shelley Deromedi. The Thermopolis Town Council met for its first regular monthly meeting on November. Brad Becerra, VFW Post Commander, appeared to make a veterans outreach presentation for the council. Becerra prefaced his presentation by addressing concerns he had regarding how the town communicates actions taken by the town council to town residents. Beginning in 2018, long-time local resident, Cassie Owsley, operated a small business out of the shop on the family farm on Black Mountain Road. She sold specialized feeds and enjoyed being able to save friends and neighbors a trip into Thermopolis, or into Worland, to purchase necessary livestock feeds. Last Friday night was Halloween, and there was a lot going on in Thermopolis. The Burns Broncs were at Leroy Hayes Field looking to defeat the Bobcats on their home turf. At games end, however, the Broncs would head home – sans treat, and with their season coming to a screeching halt. The Hot Springs County High School Lady Cats volleyball team was in Lander last weekend, to compete in the West Regional Tournament. Four teams from the Northwest quad, were joined by four teams from the Southwest quad. Stephanie Boren appeared and requested that the council allow fireworks to be used at the last regular season home football game at Leroy Hayes Field on Friday, October 26 and at the home playoff game on October 31. Last September, the harriers season had begun at the Wyoming Invitational in Cheyenne and the teams were looking to better their previous times on the course at Little America. The Travel & Tourism Board met for their montly meeting on October 21. The board continued discussions on projects for which to utilize Destination and Development Grant funds, which are anticipated to be received from the State Tourism Board. The Hot Springs County School Board met on October 16 for their regular monthly meeting. The board welcomed new trustee Chauncey Johnson. Johnson thanked the board for giving him an opportunity to once again be involved with the school district. The Thermopolis - Hot Springs County Chamber Board met on October 9 for their regular monthly meeting. The chamber office changed to its winter hours schedule on October 1. Last week, the Hot Springs County High School varsity volleyball team played two in-conference matches – one at home and one on the road. On Friday, the Lady Cats hosted the Lady Blue of Shoshoni. The two teams were fairly evenly matched. However, Shoshoni came away win a 3-0 win (26-24, 25-13, and 25-20). The Hot Springs County High School Bobcat and Lady Cat cross country teams traveled to Ethete last Saturday to face off in the 2A West 5 Rivers Conference Finals.
