    The Learning Center hosted a budget informational meeting for the public on the evening of August 5. The meeting was held to provide the public with information about how the Hot Springs County budget reductions were calculated. Elements such as property tax and mineral valuations and how they affect county budgets were explained.   • County commissioners hear several reports

    The Hot Springs County Commissioners met for their first August meeting on August 5. Paul Galovich, Tom Ryan and Bob Aguiar were all present. The GIS update included permitting work throughs, and while a monthly report will be sent to the commission, a quarterly report will be given at meetings moving forward. Road and Bridge showed completion of the Anchor Dam project and an emergency patch on Lane 12.     Porshia Birdsley rests easy - at least for the moment - in her Gottsche Gym surroundings. Aside from the weights and machines, there is a space dedicated to Birdsley's many wins on the Strongman circuit, including her biggest and most recent win, the United States Strongman National Championship on June 28 in Concord, North Carolina.   • Town gives out life saving awards

    The Thermopolis Town Council met for its second monthly meeting on July 15. Minutes were approved, as was the budget resolution. Mayor Estenson awarded two community members with the Thermopolis Police Department Life Saving award: Thermopolis Police Department Animal Patrol and Emergency Communication Officer Grace Wagstaff, and Thermopolis citizen Harmony Starline.     The Hot Springs County Commissioners met last Tuesday to deal with a small but substantial agenda, with the most important item being the approval of the fiscal year budget. With one final plea from the local 4-H group and another from a community member, the budget for the year was approved. Final budget numbers will be printed once they are available.     A lively and festive weekend hit Thermopolis with Wyoming Discovery Days in the park and Big Music in a Small Town at the Thermopolis Golf Course. A free event, Wyoming Discovery Days featured two full days of live music, wagon rides, a raffle, and plenty of vendor booths in Hot Springs State Park. Visitors could get ice cream made by a steam engine or watch one of several blacksmith demonstrations.     A small but lively group joined a fraud prevention workshop at the Hot Springs County Library on July 8th. Tia Gillespie and Kayte Collamer, both from Central Bank & Trust, handed out a wealth of information, as well as snacks and drinks, as people settled in. Patrol Sargeant Casey Freund from the Hot Springs County Sheriff's Office, led the talk.
