Rex James Clothier

1943-2026

Rex James Clothier was born in a suburb of Los Angeles, Calif., on January 7, 1943. He attended public schools in Pawnee Park, Kan., Sidney Neb., and Torrington, Wyo., graduating from Torrington High School in 1960.

Rex started a lifelong love of coaching with a little league team in Torrington in 1961 while attending Eastern Wyoming College. He married his high school sweetheart in November 1961. That relationship produced three daughters, Susan Elaine and twins Cathy Lynn and Cindy Lee. The marriage ended in 1977. Barbara Lee Brekke became his bride in 1978 and Rex adopted her son Ted.

Rex's education included an Associate of Business at EWC, Bachelor's Degree at Oregon State, Master's Degree at Northern Arizona University, and graduate stints at O.U. and NMSU. His vocational activities included coaching in various sports from the age of 18 through 74, majoring in wrestling for more than 35 years, including his last 10 years of coaching in Thermopolis.

Rex's love of competition led him to the game of Bridge, where, with excellent partners, he achieved the rank of Silver Life Master.

Rex was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Dorothy Clothier; beloved wife, Barbara; brother, Harvey (Myrna) Clothier; and sister, Dorothy Ehrman.

He is survived by his brother, Gary (Ruth) Clothier; son, Ted Clothier; daughters, Susan (Frank) Martinez, Cathy (Greg) Bryant and Cindy (Keith) Baker; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Rex wrote: "I have valued my time on earth through loving parents, my precious Barbara, son Ted, daughters Susan, Cathy, and Cindy, and dear friends and students who encouraged me and brought joy and fulfillment to me. I look forward to a heavenly reunion."
