1936-2026
Robert Herbert McCann, born March 31, 1936, went home to be with Jesus September 22, 2026, with his wife by his side.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 72 years, Ruthanne (Cassel) McCann; children, Deborah (Howard) Winters of Huntington, W. Va., and Donald (Sue) McCann of Thermopolis, Wyo .; sister, Susan M. McCann of Erie, Pa .; grandchildren, Donald McCann (special friend Albert), and Todd McCann (Erica Miller); and great-grandson Cooper Wicks.
Born in Quakertown, Pa., to Harold and Mary (Schantz) McCann, Bob graduated from Norristown High School in 1954. He worked as a driver for Stroehmann Bread Companies before moving his family to Nederland, Colo., in 1972 after a ski vacation drew him west. He continued his plumbing trade with City Plumbing and later for the University of Colorado. Bob's heart belonged outdoors. A lifelong hunter, he embraced Colorado and Wyoming's mountains and wildlife, packing into wilderness camps with his horses and mules, guiding and outfitting, and pursuing elk, bear, and antelope. In his 40s, he began bull riding, just for the challenge.
He and Ruthie shared a love of travel, exploring places everywhere, Hawaii, Alaska, Australia, Iceland, an African safari, and a Baltic Sea cruise through Ireland, Norway, and Finland. For over 20 years, they spent winters in Yuma, Arizona, where Bob enjoyed the warm weather, trap shooting and desert exploring. He kept up with friends across the country by phone regularly, making notes to remind himself of who he wanted to call.
A covenant husband, supportive father, outdoorsman, guide and outfitter, sports enthusiast, and storyteller extraordinaire, Bob lived life to the fullest. Full on every day.
The family wants to thank Stillwater Hospice for the grace-filled, compassionate and generous care during Bob's final weeks. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Bob's name to Debba's Hope for Tomorrow, a nonprofit that supports families living with ALS. www.debbashope.org or Debbas Hope, 606 South Terrace, Huntington W.
