Kevin Koerwitz

1976-2026

Kevin Koerwitz, age 50, passed away on March 11, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on January 27, 1976, in Omaha, Neb., Kevin grew up in Thermopolis, Wyo., where he made the most of small‑town life. He had a classic 80's childhood, spending his days playing sports in the street, fishing, floating the river, swimming in the hot pools, and camping with his family at Sinks Canyon. In high school he performed in drama and excelled as a debater on the speech team.

Kevin graduated from the University of Wyoming with a degree in Marketing and later earned his MBA from the University of Colorado. His career took him into college athletics as Assistant Athletic Director at Colorado College and Portland State, before he shifted into roles focused on helping others with the American Red Cross and United Blood Services.

While living in Portland, Kevin fell in love with the Oregon Coast. He enjoyed crabbing, clamming, and picking blackberries - and he was a fantastic cook, always finding delicious ways to turn those bounties into meals that brought people together.

In 2015, Kevin married Kyle Thompson, and the two built a warm, welcoming home in Casper, Wyo. Kevin had a huge heart and an even bigger gift for making people feel cared for. He'd open his home to anyone, share whatever he had, and give you the shirt off his back with a smile.

Kevin was also a fantastic storyteller with a sharp, sarcastic wit and he would laugh until he cried. He loved to make lists and dream big. His favorite quote towards the end was "you either get busy living or you get busy dying"

He had fond memories of hunting elk, deer, and antelope with his brother Brady. He loved cribbage, card games, and cheering for his Wyoming Cowboys and Denver Broncos. Throughout his life, Kevin's heart was made even fuller by his dogs - first Poncho and Lefty, and later Bougie and Brodi - loyal companions who brought him comfort, laughter, and unconditional love.

Kevin was the treasured son of David and Beverly Koerwitz; and is also survived by his husband, Kyle; brother and sister‑in‑law, Brady and Stacey Koerwitz; mother and father-in-law, Royce and Keri Thompson; brother and sister-in-law, Kory and Becca Thompson; and his beloved nieces and nephews, Parker, Cloe, Adryan, Charlee, Ryder, Madison, and Samson.

Kevin's life was filled with kindness, humor, generosity, faith, unforgettable stories, and the kind of laughter that stays with you. He made people smile - every single time - and he will be missed more than words can express.

A celebration of life will be held for Kevin on May 2 from 4-7 p.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn in Casper
