1921-2025
Florence Marie “Toots” Daugherty, of Thermopolis, Wyoming, died on November 6, 2025. She was an amazing 104 years old. Born Florence Marie Walker on August 23, 1921, in Lucerne, Wyoming, she was the third of six children born to Jesse and Grace Walker.
Toots grew up in Lucerne and Thermopolis. She was united in marriage to Russell Elmer Daugherty and they enjoyed 46 wonderful years together before he predeceased her. Together they lived in Worland and raised two sons, Russell Joseph Daugherty and Marvin Jay Daugherty.
Toots enjoyed life as a rancher’s wife and homemaker. Known for her sharp wit, swift comebacks, and matter-of-fact determined self-reliance, Toots lived mostly independently until her death. She was a skilled organist and pianist, performing with various friends at the local senior center and at her church, First Baptist Church of Thermopolis. Amazingly, Toots could not read a single note of music—she played entirely by ear. Well into her 90s, Toots played at the local senior center for residents and boasted that she helped carry meal trays for “older” residents at lunch time. Toots enjoyed many other hobbies in her life: painting ceramics, watching her favorite Hallmark movies and Lawrence Welk, wearing anything purple, and helping others in her community. She was truly a caregiver. Later in life, she relished working in and admiring her Hot Springs County Master Gardeners award-winning garden. She loved living in Wyoming.
Toots was a devout Christian, and we are comforted knowing she lived a beautiful, long life and is finally with our Savior and reunited with her husband, parents, each of her siblings, and so many friends and other family members who predeceased her. Grateful for having shared her life are her sons, Russ (Mary) Daugherty of Sioux Falls, SD, and Marvin Daugherty of Basin, WY; grandchildren Jennifer (Tim) MacPhail, Jill Daugherty, Julie (John) Kovanda, Dixie Pacheco (TJ), Russell Daugherty, Amber Daugherty (fiancé Ryan Silva), and Autumn Bubla. She will also be missed by her many great grandchildren: Harriet, William, and Elisabeth MacPhail; Cal and George Kovanda; Tanayia, Timmy, and TessaMae Pacheco; Allie Coe-Daugherty, Konnor Manesss, Jadyn Silva, and Carter Silva. Toots was preceded in death by her loving husband, Russell Daugherty, her parents, and all her siblings: Irene, Esther, June, Thelma, and Frank.
The family is grateful to the many friends and caregivers who kept Toots company later in her life, and in her final months, Jocelyn White. A special thank you to Lynn, David, Allie, and Anthony at Canyon Village for always going above and beyond.
Toots was an amazing woman, and she will be dearly missed. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Thermopolis.
