Thermopolis Rodeo Club member Hoyt Peil competed at the Wyoming Jr. High Finals Rodeo in Gillette on May 10 and qualified for the National Jr. High Rodeo Finals in two events.
Peil and his parter, Cruz Viles of Cody, won 1st in the average in the team roping with impressive times of 10.44 in the first go around and 10.62 in the second earning them another 1st in year end standings and a spot to compete at nationals.
In boys breakaway roping, Peil finished 3rd in the first go around with a time of 3.81 and 2nd in the second go around with a time of 4.06 to earn 2nd in the average, 3rd in the year end state standing and a spot in another event at nationals.
In boys goat tying, Peil was 8th in the first go around with a time of 13.94 and 6th in the second go around with a time of 11.810 for 6th in the average and 8th in the year end state standings.
The young cowboy finished 7th in the Wyoming Jr. High Year end All Around standings
He will be busy practicing over the next month prior to heading to the National Jr. High Rodeo Finals in Des Moines, IA June 23-29.
Hoyt is a sixth grader at Thermopolis Middle School. He is the son of Dawn and Brad Peil.
