Bridge presentation at Historical Society meeting

The Hot Springs County Historical Society will hold their next meeting on Saturday, January 13 at 2 p.m. at the Historical Museum. This month’s program will be “The Confession of a Historical Bridge Nerd” presented by John Bernhisel.

Every bridge has a story. Their story is of hope, engineering, history, design and much more. Wyoming bridges are no exception. We may not have the Brooklyn or Golden Gate Bridges, but Wyoming bridges are equally historic. Sadly, many of Wyoming’s most historic bridges are being replaced or lost without being documented.

Bernhisel will share with you some of Wyoming’s greatest bridge stories, have some fun, share some trivia, and create interest in documenting Wyoming’s pathways.

Bernhisel has made Wyoming his home since 1988. He taught science and computer science for the past 35 years at Rocky Mt. High School in Cowley. He first became interested in bridges while studying physics, but as an adult he realized how much history they hold, and he wants to tell their stories, including ways that Wyoming bridges have changed the world.

This meeting is open to everyone who has an interest in the history of Thermopolis, Hot Springs County and the State of Wyoming. Refreshments will be served.
