On the Record policy

It is the Thermopolis Independent Record’s policy that all people arrested or cited under the “Accidents,” “Sheriff’s office” or “Police department” in the On the Record section are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. We print the names of all people upon their initial arrest.

Sheriff’s Office

Monday, Dec. 11

10:28 a.m. Deputies investigated and found marijuana in a home during a probation check. 

5:33 p.m. Report of a vehicle versus deer crash in the area of mile marker 136 on Highway 20 North. 

11:21 p.m. A deputy investigated a suspicious phone call. 

Tuesday, Dec. 12

10 a.m. Sarah L Speakthunder, 27, from Harlem, Mont., was arrested on a Hot Spring County warrant for bond revocation. Her original charges were for driving while under the influence of alcohol, bodily injury to a peace officer, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of a controlled substance, felony status. 

11:32 a.m. Deputies took a report of a spam caller.

1:55 p.m. Agency assist for the Police Department.

2:21 p.m. Report of a vehicle versus deer crash that occurred in the area of mile marker 135 on Highway 20 North.

2:45 p.m. Teresa Maxine Velasquez, 49, was arrested for allegedly driving without an interlock device.

Jason Craig Sass, 49, from Riverton was arrested for allegedly driving while under the influence of alcohol. 

6:19 p.m. Report of a wallet located in the bathroom at a restaurant.

Wednesday, Dec. 13

5:07 p.m. Agency assist for the Police Department.

Thursday, Dec. 14

11:20 a.m. Deputies provided a civil standby in the Grass Creek Area.

12:21 p.m. Deputies responded to a request for a civil standby on Missouri Flat.

5:29 p.m. Report of a civil dispute in Kirby over shared property. The parties were advised that the issue was civil. 

Friday, Dec. 15

12:45 p.m. Agency assist for the Police Department.

3:47 p.m. A civil standby was conducted for a person that dropped off belongings of another person at the Sheriff’s Office. The owner was notified to retrieve their property. 

Saturday, Dec. 16

5:02 p.m. Agency assist for the Police Department.

6:59 p.m. Deputies searched for a suspicious vehicle on Highway 20 South. 

8:11 p.m. A 23-year-old male was issued a citation for possession of marijuana.

8:46 p.m. Agency assist for Probation and Parole with a probation check.

Sunday, Dec. 17

4:52 p.m. Report of a Search & Rescue call in the Owl Creek Mountain Area for a side by side that was stuck while hunters were recovering an elk. Search and Rescue was able to retrieve them. 

Police Department

Monday, Dec. 11

11:58 a.m. Boone Millard Myers, 36, was arrested in the 400 block of Arapahoe Street due to an active bench warrant out of Hot Springs County for a probation violation. 

12:44 p.m. A 26-year-old male was contacted during a Probation and Parole check and was found to be in possession of controlled substances. The male’s probation was revoked and he was provided two citations for plant form marijuana and liquid THC. 

4:40 p.m. A 58-year-old male in the 1400 block of Fremont Street was cited for nuisance animal violation after continuous contacts of nine barking dogs . 

9:13 p.m. A traffic stop was conducted in the 400 block of North Springview Street where the driver, Franklin Leon Brimage, 37, was arrested for alleged three counts of driving while suspended, not using a turn signal, stop sign violation and illegal window tinting. 

Tuesday, Dec. 12

1:55 p.m. Report of a domestic problem that occurred in the 600 block of Maiden Street. The subjects involved were separated for the night.

4:10 p.m. Agency assist for Sheriff’s Office. The Animal Control Officer transported a dog to the vet clinic after a female subject had her dog with her when she was incarcerated.

5:27 p.m. Agency assist for Probation and Parole with an incident in the 700 block of Washakie Street. Charles Michael Fender, 45, from Shoshoni, was arrested for alleged possession of a controlled substance, meth. Sara Marie Cheatham, 43, was arrested for alleged possession of a controlled substance, meth, a third plus felony status, possession of a controlled substance pill form, and defraud drug & alcohol test: possess adulterants.

Wednesday, Dec. 13

9 a.m. A 42-year-old male refused to perform a urinal analysis after multiple requests to appear at the Law Enforcement Center.

1:50 p.m. Report of Christmas presents that were stolen out of the reporting party’s vehicle after a coworker had driven his car after the reporting party was previously arrested. 

2:48 p.m. Report of a dog that was found running at large in the 200 block of South 6th Street. The owner was located and took possession of the dog. The male owner was given a warning. 

5:07 p.m. Officers responded to a domestic problem. Officers made contact with both parties involved and they were separated for the night.

Thursday, Dec. 14

12:28 p.m. An 80-year-old male was trespassed from the an assisted living facility.

Friday, Dec. 15

10:15 a.m. A male dog was found running at large in the 800 Block of Big Horn Street. 

12:45 p.m. A 17-year-old female was cited for battery after being involved in a fight in the 100 Block of North 5th Street. 

2:41 p.m. Report of a barking dog in the 1100 block of Amoretti Street that caused many other dogs in the neighborhood to bark.

Saturday, Dec. 16

1:25 p.m. John Brooks Welch, 42, was arrested on a warrant. His original charges for criminal trespass.

Circuit Court

Brie Wetmore-Biggs, possession of a controlled substance, powder or crystal, three grams or less, six months jail, 180 days suspended, six months unsupervised probation, fees and fines $220 and open containers of alcohol/moving vehicle, first offense, fees and fines $140.

John F. Baker was bound over to District Court for possession of a controlled narcotic substance, Schedule I or II, amount more than in para ci; breach of peace; possession of a controlled substance, plant, three ounces or less; possession of a controlled narcotic substance, Schedule I or II, amount more than in para ci; possession of a controlled substance, powder or crystal, three grams or less.
