Zoe Ann Lain passed away on September 28, 2023, in Placerville, Calif., at the age of 81. She leaves behind a legacy of unwavering love and commitment as a single mother, sister, grandmother, friend, and a dedicated grade school teacher.
Born on June 2, 1942, Zoe was a native of Thermopolis, Wyo. She was the daughter of Roscoe and Eunice Zimmerman and grew up alongside her sister and best friend, Priscilla, cultivating a strong sense of fierce independence and strength from an early age.
Zoe’s life was marked by her passion for education. She graduated from Hot Springs High School in 1960 and pursued her calling in teaching. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Education from the University of Wyoming in 1964, embarking on a career that would touch the lives of countless children, teaching in the communities of Casper, Riverton, Lander, Hanna and finally Douglas, Wyo. Her journey as an educator was more than just a profession; it was a lifelong vocation.
As a grade school teacher and reading specialist, Zoe was known for her kindness, patience, and dedication to nurturing young minds. She had a unique ability to make learning fun and engaging, leaving a lasting impact on her students. Generations of children were inspired by her enthusiasm for education, and many fondly remembered her as the teacher who believed in them.
Outside of the classroom, Zoe was a loving mother, raising two children on her own. Zoe’s love was unwavering, and her children’s achievements were a testament to her guidance and encouragement.
In addition to raising two children, Zoe had a unique and beautiful relationship with her daughter Joey Bennett (Andrew) of San Francisco. Zoe’s life journey had taken her on an unexpected path, and she had given Joey up for adoption as an infant. They later reconnected, and their relationship blossomed into a beautiful and loving connection that brought immeasurable joy and fulfillment to both of them.
But Zoe’s love didn’t stop with her children. She was an extraordinary grandmother to five grandchildren - Robby, Kaia, Jack, Gage, and Gavin. Her bond with them was incredibly special, filled with stories, laughter, and endless love. She cherished her role as a grandmother, and the memories created with her grandchildren will forever be treasured.
