Town council hears reports at brief meeting

At the October 3 Thermopolis Town Council meeting, Chief of Police Pat Cornwell reported that they hired a part-time officer who is from Big Horn County who will be in Thermopolis uniform and vehicle. Cornwell said “Maybe down the road” the position will be full time.

Town Engineer Anthony Barnett reported that the boiler at the water plant has seals that are leaking glycol and that it is a maintenance issue. They are currently looking for parts.

The council held an executive session and after reconvening the meeting, Mayor Adam Estenson said that Sergeant Mike Mascorro would be returning to full duty as soon as his medical status cleared.Mascorro returned to duty on October 5.

Mayor Estenson also held a discussion about the Christmas holiday schedule. The council voted and passed the approval to have Friday, December 22 off as well as Monday, December 25. Mayor Estenson said that different department heads can potentially accommodate staff’s time off.

Assistant to the Mayor Jim Jeunehomme said that they will be installing new playground equipment at the Family Park on Broadway Street and installing new concrete in front of Town Hall.

The council also voted and passed the approval of Paul Berry and Jeb Schenck to the Big Horn Basin Nature and Discover Center joint powers board.

During citizen participation, the council voted and passed the approval of Double D LLC’s alcoholic beverage permit and catering permit for the Chamber Banquet.
