William H. and Carrie Gottsche were sheep ranchers, butchers and finally bankers in Rock Springs, Wyo. Their daughter was stricken with polio and was treated over much of the world, but they felt she gained most from her treatment in the Hot Springs State Park pools. Because of this, they gifted money to build a rehabilitation center in Thermopolis. The foundation was incorporated on March 28, 1954, as a non-profit foundation providing diagnosis and treatment of crippling conditions for children and adults. Treatment was and continues to be given without discrimination of race, color, creed, or the ability to pay.

CEO Cheryl Shero has served at Gottsche for the past 22 years and said, “Gottsche is the only comprehensive outpatient rehabilitation facility that is licensed by the state of Wyoming. Gottsche has a stellar reputation, and I’m proud to be a part of it. I’ve seen everything here from sports and orthopedic rehab, from pre and post-surgical rehab, total joint replacements, acute and chronic pain of all kinds, balance disorders, back pain, and much, much more. Our therapists provide evidence-based treatments that allow the best outcomes for our patients. It is the part I get to see and enjoy the most with those smiling faces returning to normal, everyday life. We serve six communities and I’m proud that we are part of the communities of Thermopolis, Worland Basin, Powell, Cody, and Shoshoni.”

Shero continued and said, “Fundraising this year has become a top priority to continue to provide top-notch, patient-centered care to everyone in this community and in our other communities, regardless of their ability to pay. We want to be there. My passion as a director is being able to serve all of you. Thank you in advance for your support.”

Gottsche Business Manager Karissa Nichols added, “We are a nonprofit and we do a large amount of scholarships and write-offs each year. With insurance reimbursements going lower and lower, it makes it more difficult. People are struggling financially, but they still need therapy.” Gottsche provides therapy to a variety of patients, helping them recover from pain, surgeries and strokes. Some of their techniques include dry needling, exercise treatments, and building strength.
