Helen Roncco

Helen Roncco, 94, died on June 4, 2023, at Deer Trail Assisted Living in Rock Springs, Wyo., where she resided since Nov. 2021.

She was born on June 21, 1928, to Nikola and Dushanka Pavkovich in Lander, Wyo. Her family moved to Gebo, Wyo., where she lived until she was eight years old when they moved to Thermopolis.

On August 24, 1947, she married Leo Roncco, Jr. in Thermopolis, Wyo. He predeceased her in 1993 leaving her a widow for 30 years. Helen loved Thermopolis but had to move to assisted living in Rock Springs due to declining health.

Helen's home where she raised her four children was her pride and joy. Early in her marriage she taught herself to sew and was an accomplished seamstress. She made many memories for her children and grandchildren with homemade chocolate chip cookies and other family favorites. To this day, many of her recipes are used by her family on a regular basis.

Helen was a member of P.E.O., Chapter K.

She had an innate sense of style as evidenced by her wardrobe and home decor. She collected art and was instrumental in obtaining original paintings from her maternal uncle who was an artist in Serbia. She maintained an interest in current events and politics until she died.

Survivor include daughters, Nena James of Rock Springs, Wyo., and Lynn Roncco of Indianapolis, Ind.; and her sister, Violet Pavkovich, who also lives at Deer Trail Assisted Living. She is also survived by six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and her beloved cat, Bandit, who remained at her side until the end.

She was preceded in death by her sons, Reno Roncco and Tony Roncco, her husband; parents; and son-in-law, John W. James.

There will be no memorial services at her request.
