On the Record policy

It is the Thermopolis Independent Record’s policy that all people arrested or cited under the “Accidents,” “Sheriff’s office” or “Police department” in the On the Record section are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. We print the names of all people upon their initial arrest.

Highway Patrol

Friday, June 2

10 p.m. Ethan Richard-Paul Tabor, 19, from Cody, was placed in the detention center for allegedly driving while suspended, second offense, under 21 possession of tobacco, failure to provide insurance, and speeding in a construction zone.

Sheriff’s Office

Monday, May 29

10:32 a.m. Agency assist for Highway Patrol with a vehicle blocking the lane of travel with a flat tire. The vehicle was able to pull off the road to change the tire. 

1:43 p.m. A set of AirPods was lost during the 3 on 3 Tournament. The deputy followed up with the owner on its last pinged location. The Air Pods are still missing at this time and they appear to have left Hot Springs County. 

Tuesday, May 30

5:56 p.m. An investigation was opened on a suspicious VIN sticker during a VIN inspection. The company of the trailer confirmed it was made by them. No further investigation is to follow. 

Wednesday, May 31

8:40 a.m. Report of a wallet located at a gas pump at a local gas station.

Thursday, June 1

9:16 a.m. Deputies provided traffic control for a cattle drive on Highway 120 West.

6:31 p.m. Report of a possible scam involving a dating app. The male victim was asked to send money by a female suspect. No money was sent. 

Friday, June 2

1:57 p.m. A deputy removed a deer carcass from the lane of travel on Highway 20 North.

7:14 p.m. Jesse Skelton, 19, was arrested on a warrant for a bond violation. 

Saturday, June 3

9:06 a.m. Darrick Collins, 19, was arrested for allegedly driving while suspended (subsequent offense) and failure to maintain liability insurance (subsequent offense). 

9:59 p.m. Agency assist for the police department.

Sunday, June 4

7:22 a.m. A welfare check was performed on a family from Florida sleeping in a car in the parking lot of a hotel. The two adults and two children were found to be okay.

12:28 p.m. Agency assist for the police department.

3:57 p.m. Deputies received information about a vehicle failing to maintain a single lane traveling through the canyon. 

5:15 p.m. Citizen assist involving a scam call of threatening text messages from a bank.

6:27 p.m. Report of a disabled vehicle that was in the lane of traffic. It was able to be moved off the road.

Police Department

Tuesday, May 30

11:17 p.m. An officer contacted six juveniles in a vehicle which resulted in the citation of two juvenile males for possession of marijuana, possession of tobacco, and use of tobacco. 

Wednesday, May 31

4:30 p.m. Officers made contact with subjects in regard to an alleged child abuse assault that happened in February 2023. 

Thursday, June 1

11:38 a.m. A dog was seen running at large in the area of 8th and Big Horn. Officers were unable to locate the dog. 

12:31 p.m. Report of a recurring problem of a mother failing to pick up her child from daycare on time. A report was created for a pending Department of Family Services case. 

2:20 p.m. A female reported being sexually assaulted. After collecting the information, the female was informed that hugs are not considered sexual assault and to tell people in the future if she wishes not to be touched. 

2:56 p.m. A large bull snake was in the yard of the reporting party. The snake was caught, removed, and taken to a better location. 

4:32 p.m. A traffic accident occurred in the 500 block of Broadway Street while drivers were heading west. A traffic accident report was created. 

1:09 p.m. A local female was warned for dog running-at-large. 

Friday, June 2

11:54 a.m. A traffic accident occurred on private property in the 600 block of South 6th Street. Total damage was under $1,000. 

5:13 p.m. Tyron Potts, 39, was arrested for alleged public intoxication in the 1300 block of Canyon Hills Road. 

Saturday, June 3

9:06 a.m. Agency assist for the sheriff’s office.

2:41 p.m. A white and brown pit bull mix dog running at large was collected at the intersection of 6th Street and Broadway and released to its owner. 

3:20 p.m. A male subject, from Worland,was cited for parking in an alley. 

5:25 p.m. A long-haired black dog running at large was collected in the 100 block of Mountain View Road and then released to its owner. 

10:08 p.m. Jackylin Wurtz, 55, was arrested in the 500 block of Clark Street for alleged possession of a controlled substance; methamphetamine during a traffic stop initiated by the Hot Springs County Sheriff’s Office. 

Sunday, June 4

12:23 p.m. A 22-year-old male from Pine Bluffs, Wyo., was trying to find a saw to cut up elk antlers so he could fit them into his car. The reporting party believed the male was drunk the night prior and stole them. Police identified the elk antlers belonging to a local Airbnb and were able to return the antlers to the owner. A 22-year-old male from Cheyenne involved in a prior theft that night investigated by the Wyoming Highway Patrol was provided a citation for theft. 

11:14 a.m. A husky mix dog running at large in the 600 block of South 6th Street was collected and then released to its owner. 

3:57 p.m. Agency assist for the sheriff’s office.

Birth

Olivia Larson was born at 3:21 a.m. on Thursday, May 25, 2023, at Hot Springs Health to Trisha and William Larson.

She weighed 6.67 pounds and was 19 inches long.

Grandparents are Sherman and Hallie Skelton of Thermopolis, Chad and Michele Ooten from Selah, Wash., Casey and Brenda Larson of Thermopolis, and Bob and Tonyia Plewinski of Thermopolis.

Circuit Court

Shawn D. Goodman was bound over to District Court for possession of a controlled substance, powder or crystal, three grams or less, third plus offense.

Chad Manley, driving while under the influence of alcohol equal to or greater than .08%, second offense within 10 years, 180 days jail, 130 days suspended, 12 months supervised probation, fees and fines $420.

Timothy E. Two Hearts, driving while license canceled, suspended, or revoked if not suspended for 31-5-229 or 31-5-233, three days jail, three days suspended, three months unsupervised probation, fees and fines $450 and compulsory auto insurance, first offense, fees and fines $570.

Claire Spoonhunter, possession of a controlled substance, plant, three ounces or less, 60 days jail, 60 days suspended, six months unsupervised probation, fees and fines $420.

Kevin Acosta Morales, interference with a peace officer, 180 days jail, 177 days suspended, 12 months unsupervised probation, fees and fines $220.

Boysen Release Flow

On Tuesday, June 6, the flow from Boysen increased from 3,000cfs to 4,000cfs.
