On the Record policy

It is the Thermopolis Independent Record’s policy that all people arrested or cited under the “Accidents,” “Sheriff’s office” or “Police department” in the On the Record section are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. We print the names of all people upon their initial arrest.

Monday, May 22

2:44 a.m. Deputies responded to a welfare check. A spouse was transported to the hospital and was concerned for the welfare of the husband. 

9:13 p.m. Report of cows in the road on West Sunnyside Lane.

Tuesday, May 23

5:17 p.m. Justice Angelique Stehlin, 28 was arrested for allegedly driving while under the influence of alcohol, second offense in 10 years, speeding, and open container.

9:55 p.m. Report of a semi-truck versus cow at mile marker 146 on US Highway 20 North.

Wednesday, May 24

1:22 p.m. Report of a purse found on the ground near the Senior Center. The owner was located, and the purse was returned. 

6:26 a.m. Deputies assisted Emergency Medical Services with a call.

6:00 p.m. Deputies investigated a possible protection order violation. No violation was found.

8:35 p.m. Report of a civil dispute in the Skelton Road area.

Friday, May 26

11:45 a.m. Report of a welfare check on an elderly female. The subject was found to be okay.

Saturday, May 27

3:30 a.m. Cory Ray Loerch, 43, from Shoshoni, was arrested for alleged battery. Erik Wilson, 43, from Bailey, Colorado was arrested for alleged public intoxication. 

7:20 a.m. Deputies provided traffic control for a cattle drive on Highway 20 North.

9:20 a.m. Report of a civil dispute regarding a vehicle. The matter was handled between both parties without issue. 

10:51 a.m. Deputies escorted an oversize load from town to Missouri Flats. 

5:08 p.m. Agency assist for the Highway Patrol on a traffic stop.

10:48 p.m. Agency assist for the Police Department.

Sunday, May 28

9:24 a.m. A juvenile female was issued a citation for fighting in public.

12:38 p.m. Report of dogs left in a crate in the sun. The dogs were okay.

1:52 p.m. Report of a male driver who was driving with an illegal license plate. 

3:18 p.m. A citation was issued to a male for unsafe passing and following too closely in the Wind River Canyon.

Tuesday, May 23

5:24 p.m. Agency assist for the Sheriff’s Office.

6:22 p.m. Report of a property damage crash in the 600 block of South 6th Street with no injuries or citations issued. 

8:56 p.m. Report of an animal problem in the 100 block of Circle Drive.

Wednesday, May 24

6:00 p.m. Officers were notified of a possible protection order violation at the 400 block of South 11 Street. 

2:50 p.m. Report of a parking problem involving a camper in the back lot of the VFW. Officers verified there was no one living there.

Thursday, May 25

8:27 a.m. Report of a found black purse in the 100 block of Clark Street. 

9:24 a.m. Report of two dogs running at large. The dogs were returned to their yard.

4:22 p.m. Agency assist involving a case with juveniles that could be turned over to Denver SVU. There is an active investigation regarding possible abuse.

Friday, May 26

10:45 a.m. Garrett Severns, 22, was arrested for alleged possession of marijuana, no insurance second offense, and driving while license suspended, second Offense. 

12:12 p.m. An elderly female reported a suspicious text message from the IRS.

12:12 p.m. Report of a stolen wallet missing from a personal vehicle. The wallet was found hours later in a work vehicle. 

1:29 p.m. Report of hit-and-run vehicle damage in the 500 block of Broadway Street. 

Saturday, May 27

3:29 a.m. Erik P. Wilson, 43, from Colorado, was arrested for alleged public intoxication and breach of peace after officers were dispatched to a local hotel for the report of a fight. 

10:58 a.m. Report of a fire alarm at a local restaurant. The alarm was false.

12:51 p.m. Report of a baby raccoon crossing the intersection at Buffalo Street and East Park Street. 

2:32 p.m. Report of a barking dog in the 300 block of Arapahoe Street. 

10:42 p.m. Sterling James Chavis, 19, from Basin, was arrested for alleged possession of a controlled substance (meth) and possession or use of nicotine under 21, and no seat belt after a traffic stop was conducted for inoperable tail lights. Other charges are pending.

Sunday, May 28

1:22 p.m. Report of a verbal confrontation between two adult males at a sporting event.

9:03 p.m. Officers conducted a welfare check at the 100 block of Judy Lee Ave.
