Bobcat track opens at Shoshoni

Last week the Bobcat track and field team members competed in Shoshoni and Powell, earning some strong individual finishers and setting some personal records.

At Shoshoni, the Lady Cats finished 4th as team out out of a field of 14. The Bobcats finished 2nd as a team out of a field of 14.

At Powell, the Lady Cats came in 6th out of a field of 9 teams. The Bobcats finished 6th out of a field of 10 teams.

Coach Calder Forcella commented, “I am proud of where we are at as a team right now. Our coaches have done an excellent job training our athletes, and our athletes are where they need to be from a conditioning and training standpoint.”

He added, “Mental toughness has been an emphasis for our program this year and our kids demonstrated that last week with back to back meets and full event schedules. I was proud of how our kids competed and performed on back to back days in Shoshoni and Powell.”

Jayci Basse placed in the top three at three meets now in the 300 hurdles, and posted competitive times in the 100, 200, and 400. “We threw an 800 at her last Saturday and she proved she can be competitive there as well. As our lone senior, Jayci has been a great leader in showing our young athletes what mental toughness looks like and that hard work pays off. The amount of time and effort Jayci has put into the weight room and on the track is paying dividends and I look forward to watching the rest of her senior campaign,” said coach Forcella.

The boys 4X8 team pre-qualed last Saturday in Powell. “Ethan, Chris, Ryan, and Cole have done an excellent job of pushing each other in practice to cut time and prove that they deserve to run on the big stage in Casper at state this May,” said coach Forcella.

He also said, “Cole Keller joined our team this year as a freshman and has a bright future. We have tried him in several events and he has found success in all of them. He has a great attitude and work ethic and I look forward to watching him compete down the stretch in the 400 and 800. Seth Needham has consistently gotten better each week. He is another that always works hard in practice and has put a bunch of time into the weight room. He is seeing his hard work pay off as he has a competitive 400 time that has placed him in each of the last few meets. Mason Reese has also shown potential in the throws. He posted two big PR’s in Shoshoni that placed him second in the discus and third in the shot. Brooklynn Williams is also new to the throwing rings and posted a huge PR in the shot that placed her second.”

“I feel fortunate to have such a great staff with so much knowledge. With only one senior, we have a young team that is making leaps and bounds every meet. Coach Daniels, Coach Elder, Coach Williams, and Coach Bowker have done a phenomenal job of pushing our athletes and as a result we are seeing lots of big PR’s. In Shoshoni our boys took second and our girls finished fourth out of fourteen teams. Anytime your teams are finishing in the top standings your jumpers, throwers, hurdlers, and runners are all scoring points,” said coach Forcella.
