Rock hunting program Saturday

The Hot Springs County Historical Society will have Eddy Cole present the program “How to be Successful at Rock Hunting”. The event will be held on Saturday afternoon, February 11 at 2 p.m. at the Historical Museum.

Cole said, “If you are interested in how we have been successful at rock hunting for over 50 years, this talk is for you. This will help you discover where to start and how to enhance your chance of finding new and rare gems.”

Eddy was instrumental in finding the dinosaur quarry near Thermopolis, which resulted in the creation of the Wyoming Dinosaur Center. Eddy and Ava currently own “Ava’s Silver and Rock Shop” and they are known for their incredible collection of rocks, and fossils, particularly jade and lapidolite. They also have developed a booklet: ‘10 Great Wyoming Collecting Areas” which describes new locations certified by the couple with complete travel directions and what may be collected there.

The meeting is open to everyone who is interested in the history of Thermopolis, Hot Spring County, and the State of Wyoming. Refreshments will be served. For more information, call 307-272-4740 or 864-2678.or 921-1551.
