Maureen Ann Leake

Maureen Ann Leake (nee Murphy),73, peacefully passed away Saturday November 5, 2022, at Worland Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center following a period of declining health.

Born July 26,1949 in Chicago, Ill., she was the daughter of the late William and the late Eleanor (nee Costello) Murphy. She grew up as the eldest of four sisters. On October 27, 1971, she married the love of her life Edward Leake. To this union was born four children. The Leakes left Chicago for Ed to pursue his career and they arrived in Thermopolis in 1992 where they planted their permanent roots. Family always came first for Maureen and she was most happy hosting her children and their friends in her home. Her door was always open and there was always a seat at her table. Hobbies included pop culture crosswords, QVC, plants and cooking for anyone who would let her. As much as she loved her children and her pets, the true light of her life came in the form of her four, soon to be five grandchildren. She never forgot her Chicago South Side Irish roots where she was born and raised and still rooted for the Bears and the Go Go White Sox.   

She is survived by her son, Colin (Angie) of  Cheraw, Colo.; daughter, Lindsay (Kevin) Simpson, of Thermopolis; sisters, Madalyn (the late James Gallo) of Tinley Park, Ill., and Michelle (Thomas) Downes of Chicago; brother-in-law, James Hickey of Chicago; and grandchildren, Morgan, Tinley and Declan Leake and Konnor Simpson.

Maureen was preceded in death by her husband, Edward; daughter, Jennifer Leake; son, Sean; and sister, Marilyn Hickey.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday November 17 at St. Francis Catholic Church with Father Robert Rogers officiating.

Mortimore Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
