On the Record policy

It is the Thermopolis Independent Record’s policy that all people arrested or cited under the “Accidents,” “Sheriff’s office” or “Police department” in the On the Record section are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. We print the names of all people upon their initial arrest.

Sheriff’s Office

Monday, Sept. 19

11:16 a.m. A backpack with a MacBook and the ID of a female from Cody was found in the Wind River Canyon. It had been there for years. The owner was contacted.

11:47 a.m. Agency assist for the Thermopolis Police Department.

8:14 p.m. Report of a civil dispute about a possible vicious dog. Both parties were spoken to, and it was determined that there were no violations of law. 

Tuesday, Sept. 20

9:35 a.m. A deputy gave an individual answers to questions about fishing access on East River Road. 

9 p.m. A welfare check for a male on Highway 20 South. The male subject was stopped to make a phone call. 

Wednesday, Sept. 21

8:07 a.m. Report of a male subject who drove off from a gas pump with the nozzle still inserted into the vehicle. The nozzle was ripped off the pump station. The gas station employees tried to get the male subject’s insurance information to pay for the damage. The Sheriff contacted the male subject, and he was trespassed from the gas station and given a warning for driving without a license.

9:52 a.m. Report of a medical call involving the Sheriff who did a lift assist of a patient.

Thursday, Sept. 22

12 p.m. Agency assist for the Wyoming Game and Fish by dispatching an injured turkey at their request.

2:02 p.m. Shane Lynn Boren, 43, from Riverton, was arrested for alleged failure to comply and probation violation. 

4:22 p.m. Agency assist for the Thermopolis Police Department.

Friday, Sept. 23

7:09 a.m. Report of an elderly male that was confused and yelling at his wife. The male subject calmed down after speaking with a deputy.

9:38 a.m. A deputy responded to a medical facility for a male that was being aggressive. The male subject was escorted off the property .

12:19 p.m. Report of packages that had been stolen from a mailbox on Gooseberry Road. There are no known suspects at this time. 

Saturday, Sept. 24

9:59 a.m. Agency assist for the Wyoming Highway Patrol with a motor vehicle crash in the Wind River Canyon.

4:09 p.m. An inmate in the detention center reported that a person was selling their property while he was still in jail. The matter is still under investigation.

Monday, Sept. 19 

2:29 p.m. A civil problem between tenants in the 300 block of Arapahoe. 

7:13 p.m. A male reported a hit and run on his rental car around the area of the Hot Springs State Park boat ramp on Sharp Nose Drive.

11:49 p.m. A report of a female having medical issues. The female subject was transported to the hospital and treated .

Tuesday, Sept. 20

11:25 a.m. Photos were received from someone who used to live in Thermopolis of a gun that a male subject purchased in Casper. It was determined the gun was stolen in Casper in 2011. The subject turned the gun into Casper Police Department.

2:18 p.m. A female reported harassment from her ex-boyfriend. Police suggested the female seek a protection to stop the continued harassment. It was also discovered the male had a warrant out of Nevada for robbery. 

Wednesday, Sept. 21

3:09 p.m. A female subject reported her husband had pushed her. Upon further investigation, it was determined that no one was injured and no physical altercation had transpired. The male subject willingly departed the residence for the remainder of the day. 

9:10 p.m. Report of three juvenile males who were jumping the railroad tracks with their car at the intersection of Shoshoni and 5th Street. No injuries were reported and no citations were issued.

Thursday, Sept. 22

12:47 p.m. A bicycle was found in the bushes in Hot Springs State Park. State Park employees dropped the bike off at the Law Enforcement Center. It was later returned to its owner once he was identified. 

Friday, Sept. 23

9:38 a.m. Agency assist for the Hot Springs County Sheriff’s Office.

5:15 p.m. A male reported that his sister-in-law stole an urn with her mother’s ashes inside and an obituary and an ID included. The female subject lives in Fremont County and admitted to taking the items. No contact was made with the female subject. 

7:04 p.m. A female reported the odor of smoke and observed two juveniles actively spraying a burnt telephone pole down with water in the alley between the 700 block of Broadway and Warren St. During the investigation, the officer found that approximately three weeks ago, the same two juvenile males started a fire in the same location. The juveniles were spraying water for no apparent reason and it was concluded that someone nearby was barbecuing and that was what the reporting party was smelling. 

9:21 p.m. An officer spoke with a male who was being scammed out of money for several months. The amount lost was $1,050. The male subject was giving money to a fictitious female in Florida on a monthly basis, using an app. The officer helped the subject stop the scam.

Saturday, Sept. 24

9:59 a.m. Agency assist for the Sheriff’s Office and Wyoming Highway Patrol with a two-vehicle crash in the Wind River Canyon.

11:05 a.m. Police observed an elderly female nearly cause a traffic collision with an oncoming vehicle. Police also observed this female hit a curb and nearly drive up onto the sidewalk. Police made contact with the female subject and determined she was not impaired. The driver’s family members were contacted and discussed these observed driving incidents.

4:30 p.m. A civil problem between tenants in the 300 block of Arapahoe. One tenant thought another tenant placed dog feces on the other tenant’s front porch. 

5:07 p.m. A welfare check was conducted on a female juvenile who was walking around without shoes in the Hot Springs State Park and only wearing a bathing suit and a towel. The juvenile was transported home and the report will be forwarded to the Department of Family Services, as this is an ongoing issue. 

Sunday, Sept. 25

12:48 a.m. Jake William Taylor, 38, from Afton, was arrested for alleged public intoxication and interference with a police officer.

7:29 a.m. A male subject was sleeping in his car in the 400 block of North 6th Street. Officer spoke to the male subject and determined he was homeless. 

11:10 a.m. A motel employee found marijuana left behind in a room. The marijuana was seized and a further investigation ensued. 

11:47 a.m. Linda Lee Diebold-Estock, 56, was arrested for alleged criminal trespass and theft of items from a storage shed. She allegedly loaded a vehicle with items not belonging to her. She was stopped and told to unload all items.

12:18 p.m. A victim reported harassment in a parking lot.

8:06 p.m. The parents of a juvenile male reported he was currently high on marijuana. The juvenile male told police he had smoked marijuana at a house party. Police made contact with an 18-year-old female and she informed police she was aware marijuana was being consumed at her party. The 18-year-old female was issued a citation for aiding a child’s violation of law and permitting a house party with minors present.
