On the Record policy

It is the Thermopolis Independent Record’s policy that all people arrested or cited under the “Accidents,” “Sheriff’s office” or “Police department” in the On the Record section are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. We print the names of all people upon their initial arrest.

Sheriff’s Office

Monday, March 14

9:39 a.m. Report of an agency assist involving Probation and Parole. Shawn Douglas Goodman Sr., 47, was arrested for an alleged probation sanction hold. 

4:23 p.m. Courtney Chenell Sears, 30, was arrested on a warrant from Arizona involving charges of alleged vehicular homicide. 

Tuesday, March 15

12:52 p.m. Ambra Spring O’Brien, 35, from Kirby, was arrested for alleged probation revocation. 

2:26 p.m. Report of disorderly behavior involving a 31-year-old male and a 63-year-old male who were arguing outside the courthouse. There were no citations issued. 

4:09 p.m. Report of a citizen assist, but the call was canceled before the deputy arrived. 

4:31 p.m. Report of suspicious behavior involving a male in a black trench coat on Highway 20 South who was stumbling and carrying a piece of burnt firewood. The deputy was unable to locate the subject.

Wednesday, March 16

1:16 p.m. Report of found property involving a wallet that was found. The owner was contacted and they picked it up.

Friday, March 18

9 a.m. Tanya Marie Smith, 49, was placed into the detention center for a sentencing commitment. The original charges were for probation revocation. 

4:30 p.m. Report of a civil problem involving a 15-year-old male and a 16-year-old male. The younger juvenile used a slingshot and broke a vehicle’s window.

The subjects came to an agreement on how to fix it. There were no citations, as it was determined to not be criminal.

10:18 p.m. Report of a welfare check involving four children, the oldest being nine years old. The deputy found them to be OK.

Saturday, March 19

12:19 a.m. Raul Garay, 45, from Worland, was arrested on a warrant from Washakie County. The original charges were for failure to register as a sex offender.

3:44 p.m. Report of a suspicious person. The matter is still under investigation.

6:46 p.m. Report of a medical involving an unconscious female at the Gooseberry rest stop on Highway 120 West. The deputy arrived and was unable to locate the subject.

8:58 p.m. Report of suspicious activity involving some lights that were on at a home that was known to be vacant. The deputy arrived and saw the lights. All the doors were locked. The deputy made contact with a relative of the property owner through a door camera. They will continue to monitor the property. 

10:02 p.m. Report of an agency assist involving Probation and Parole. The report is pending. 

Sunday, March 20

9:28 a.m. Report of a mental subject involving a 42-year-old male who was acting aggressive and having suicidal thoughts. The deputy determined that the subject was not a threat to himself and was left alone on his own or with family. 

Police Department

Monday, March 14

5:58 a.m. Report of an alarm at one of the swimming pools. The officer did a search of the building and all was OK.

7:19 p.m. David Wayne Calvert, 50, from Riverton, was arrested for alleged driving while under the influence of alcohol. 

Tuesday, March 15

8:20 a.m. Report of an accident involving an 18-year-old male driver heading east in the 800 block of Arapahoe. The subject decided to pull over and hit a parked truck. There were no citations. 

9:21 a.m. Report of an unsecured premise on Highway 20 South. The front door was left open. The officer looked around and called the owner, who was not in town. The owner asked them to close it.

10:26 a.m. Report of a false alarm at a local bank.

10:45 a.m Report of noise at the 300 block of Arapahoe involving a resident who was playing music so loud it was rattling the neighbors’ windows. The officer told the subject to turn it down, and they did. 

2:15 p.m. Report of lost property involving a 23-year-old male who called and was looking for his wallet. He lost it somewhere between his home north of town and the high school. It has not been located yet. 

4:14 p.m. Dario Carman Gallo, 52, was arrested for alleged breach of peace and interference with a peace officer. 

4:47 p.m. Report of a citizen assist involving a 52-year-old male who was harassing a female at her workplace in the area of Canyon Hills Road. 

9:14 p.m. An officer assisted emergency medical services in the transport of a patient to the hospital. 

Wednesday, March 16

10:25 a.m. Report of harassment involving a 14-year-old male who had a concerning document on his laptop. 

12:43 p.m. Report of a juvenile problem involving a 15-year-old male who was cited for minor in possession of tobacco. 

Thursday, March 17

10:40 a.m. Report of suspicious activity in the 500 block of South 6th. The manager of the motel found a crawl space door that was moved and asked the officer to investigate. They also requested an extra patrol. 

12:54 p.m. Report of suspicious activity involving a 37-year-old female who was having depression issues. The reporting party wanted an officer to check on her. The officer made contact and no further assistance was needed. 

1:31 p.m. Report of suspicious activity involving a male subject who received a call from an attorney who claimed he would get charged for taking his son out of state. The matter is actually civil, and the officer told the subject to speak with their attorney. 

3:05 p.m. Report of an agency assist with the Department of Family Services in the 600 block of Amoretti. A juvenile would not go to school and they were advised to get counseling. 

Friday, March 18

9 p.m. Report of a juvenile problem involving a 20-year-old male who was cited for minor in possession of alcohol, minor in possession of nicotine, and open container. A 17-year-old male was cited for minor in possession of alcohol and an open container. An 18-year-old female and a 16-year-old female were also involved. 

11:30 p.m. Andren Bourne, 46, from Worland, was arrested for alleged improper registration on a vehicle, driving without a license, possession of a controlled substance, pill, powder and opioid forms. 

Saturday, March 19

5:11 p.m. Report of abandoned property in the 1,000 block of Richards involving a marijuana pipe that was found in a backyard. The police took custody of the pipe.

7:24 p.m. Report of a civil problem in the 100 block of Richards. The owner wanted to trespass a male subject from the property 

9:52 p.m. Report of drunkenness involving a female subject who called herself into dispatch and wanted to go to jail. However, the subject was home and they will report her to the probation officer. They will deal with the matter later. 

Civil Court

Gage E. Maser was bound over to District Court for alleged sexual abuse of a minor in the second degree. According to the Affidavit of Probable Cause, the alleged assault occurred in August of 2020 and involved a 14-year-old victim when Maser was approximately 29.

Nathan Wilnau, driving while license canceled, suspended, or revoked if not suspended for 31-5-229 or 31-5-233, fees and fines $440.

Raul Garay, was bounded over to District County for failure to register as a sex offender, first offense.
