On the Record policy

It is the Thermopolis Independent Record’s policy that all people arrested or cited under the “Accidents,” “Sheriff’s office” or “Police department” in the On the Record section are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. We print the names of all people upon their initial arrest.

Sheriff’s Office

Monday, Feb. 28

3:17 p.m. Report of a citizen assist involving a semi-truck broke down at mile marker 16 on Highway 120 West. The deputy stood by until a wrecker came.

6:51 p.m. Report of an accident involving a car versus deer strike at mile marker 129 on Highway 20 South. There was less than $1,000 damage and no citations.

Tuesday, March 1

11:33 a.m. Report of an agency assist involving a deputy who performed a home check with the Department of Family Services in Kirby. All was found OK.

Wednesday, March 2 

3:18 p.m. Raul Garay, 45, of Worland, was arrested for allegedly failing to register as a sex offender and cited for living within 1,000 feet of a school zone. Briana Garay, 26, was arrested for allegedly harboring a sex offender. 

Friday, March 4

3:12 p.m. Report of a search warrant of Raul Garay’s location. Items were seized as proof of residency. 

4:56 p.m. Report of disorderly behavior involving a 52-year-old male who was doing the “funky chicken walk” down the street and then was panhandling at a local business south of town. The male subject was asked to leave. He did leave before the deputy arrived. 

Saturday, March 5

8:58 a.m. Report of an emergency involving an open-air 911 call. The deputy went to the 300 block of Clark Street and made contact with the caller. Their phone was acting up and was being reset. All was OK.

Sunday, March 6

1:46 a.m. Report of a citizen assist involving a 16-year-old male who was driving a vehicle on Centennial Road and slid off to the side and became stuck. There were two 15-year-old female passengers. The truck slid onto an embankment and if it moved another 18 inches, it would fall and roll 20 feet down. The deputy helped the juveniles out of the truck. The vehicle was pulled out the next day.

2:09 p.m. Report of suspicious behavior involving a 52-year-old male who returned to a local business south of town and was looking in the windows. The subject said he thought someone took his backpack. There was no backpack on the scene. The male subject was trespassed from the business.

Monday, Feb. 28

8:24 a.m. Report of found property involving a black, gray duffle bag located at the 300 block of South 6th Street. Law enforcement has taken possession of it.

10:23 a.m. A 17-year-old female was cited for possession of tobacco. 

11:39 a.m. A 16-year-old male and a 15-year-old male were trespassed from all school properties.

1:40 p.m. A 14-year-old female, a 17-year-old female, and a 14-year-old female were all cited for possession of tobacco.

3:22 p.m. Report of an accident involving two cars in the 200 block of Park Street. A 64-year-old male driver was cited for going the wrong way in a one-way street. The male subject hit the car of a 17-year-old female. 

4:18 p.m. Report of a citizen assist involving a scam phone call. The perpetrator said he was from the power company and that the victim must pay their bill. The victim gave the numbers of a Green Dot gift card with $450 on it to the perpetrator. Before making any payments over the phone, contact your electric company to verify information.

4:56 p.m. A 21-year-old male was trespassed from a restaurant on the 600 block of Shoshoni.

4:58 p.m. A 21-year-old male was trespassed from a location on the 500 block of Park Street.

6:06 p.m. Report of an unsecured premise involving an officer who found a vehicle door open and an outside door unlocked at an office. The officer learned an employee came to work early and everything was OK.

Tuesday, March 1

6:48 a.m. Report of a citizen assist involving a false alarm at the 600 block of South 10th where a lock was found broken. The officer investigated and someone who had a key to the lock was the one who broke it and did not inform the proper people.

3:09 p.m. Report of a citizen assist in the 1500 block of Fremont involving odd smoke, odor, and humidity coming from a garage or office. The officer was unable to locate any order or issue. 

Wednesday, March 2 

10:09 a.m. Report of a juvenile problem involving a 15-year-old male who was given a ride home. There were no charges.

11:54 a.m. Report of theft at the 600 block of South 6th where a subject ate and drank some items and then left the building. The matter is still under investigation and there is video evidence. The identity of the subject is not known.

3:08 p.m. Report of a citizen assist involving some extra water that was found in an alley. A local business was pushing water off their roof.

5:24 p.m. Report of a utility problem at the 600 block of Fremont where the town crew was advised of an unknown issue.

6:34 p.m. Report of lost property involving a female subject who is missing her wallet. It has not been turned in.

Thursday, March 3

7:53 a.m. Report of an alarm signal from a bank. The teller made an error and forgot to shut off the alarm when opening a drawer. 

8:23 a.m. Report of a possible assault at the 600 block of South 6th involving a 43-year-old male victim who was upset. The officer viewed the video and found there was no assault. The officer helped the subject calm down. There were no citations. 

2:59 p.m. Report of a hit and run to a vehicle involving a 27-year-old female who said the occurrence happened either in the 600 block of South 6th or at the elementary school. The officer located a video, identified the other driver, and located the 30-year-old male suspect. The drivers exchanged insurance information and there were no citations. 

5:54 p.m. A subject was given a place to stay for the night.

Friday, March 4

5:52 p.m. Report of suspicious behavior involving a 62-year-old male who was supposedly trying to gain entry to a building. The officer made contact with the subject. The male subject admitted to knocking on the door but denied turning the doorknob.

Saturday, March 5

10:00 a.m. Report of hit and run damage to a vehicle involving an 18-year-old female who went to the Law Enforcement Center and notified them. The matter is still under investigation.

Sunday, March 6

12:11 a.m. Jason Arthur Krueger, 44, was arrested for alleged domestic assault, second offense. 

1:15 a.m. Report of suspicious behavior involving a 52-year-old male who believed someone was trying to open the door to his residence. The call was unfounded.

1:50 a.m. Report of theft involving an air compressor. There are no suspects.

11:35 a.m. Report of a citizen assist involving two juveniles who were walking a dog without a leash on the 100 block of North 6th. The officer told them to put the dog on a leash and get a town dog tag.

2:21 p.m. Andrew W. Stone, 41, was arrested for alleged breach of peace, possession of a controlled substance (pill or capsule) and possession of marijuana.

5:23 p.m. Report of threatening behavior involving a property issue between neighbors in the 300 block of Arapahoe. 

Birth

Genevieve Cranmer was born Tuesday, February 22, 2022, at Hot Springs Health to Shannon Lawson and Matt Cranmer.

She weighed 7 pounds, 12 ounces and was 20.75 inches long.

Grandparents are Bob and Barbara Lawson, Jim Cranmer and Phillis Ropley.
