Movie theater reopens

American past times such as going to movie theaters have evolved since the introduction of streaming services, the effects of the entertainment economy, and the threats of Covid illnesses.

Here in Thermopolis, our movie theater has been shut down for almost two long years. There is a buzz and excitement that has returned to the people of our community because the movie theater is back!

What was once known as The Ritz, the newly renamed Micky’s Theater has opened. Now locals can enjoy that buttery popcorn, sweet candies, and delicious sodas while watching their favorite superhero movie or whatever is on the big screen.

It’s a communal event and everyone deep down wants to enjoy it. The idea of seeing a great film on the big screen with members of your family or close friends gets the heart excited.

Many memories have been created throughout the generations. Remember Star Wars, Finding Nemo, Inception, Titanic, Avatar? The list can go on and on. Everyone can argue what their favorite film is and why. But the greatest thing about attending a film at a movie theater goes back to the heart of every man. It’s about finding our story. Storytelling grips the audience’s heart through powerful images that create deep emotions. We fall in love with the characters and root for them. We cry and shout for joy when the hero overcomes the great villain. Our hearts are touched when a couple who broke up somehow finds each other to love again. The power of story is what drives humans and the movie theater provides that opportunity. And it’s more than just sitting on your couch at home watching Netflix or Amazon.

The communal experience of seeing a powerful film with countless strangers creates powerful memories. It’s akin to going to the stadium to watch your sports team.

Now that Thermopolis’ movie theater has reopened, those experiences can happen again. Bring your families, bring your friends and open your eyes to new possibilities. This is a time to celebrate and tell Covid and the economy, “You kicked us down, but we have gotten back up again.”

See you at the theater!
