Bobcat Speech and Debate brought the fight to the two day Jackson Tournament last weekend. The Cats won first place in the 1A/2A Team Sweepstakes.
Some of the impressive individual performances at the tourney, with almost 300 entries and 11 teams, include:
Senior Jean-Luc Willson had a huge tournament. In Lincoln-Douglas debate, he advanced to the final round and placed second. He broke into the Semifinal round of Extemporaneous Debate, finishing in the top ten. Jean-Luc also finished sixth in Editorial Commentary.
Senior Josiah Butler also had an impressive weekend. He captured first place in Big Questions Debate and also ended in fifth place in Congressional Debate after advancing to Super Congress. Additionally, he finished fifth in Lincoln-Douglas debate.
Senior Jacob Randall finished 15th in Extemporaneous Speaking, barely missing a break into Semifinals.
Senior Madeline Wagler broke into Semifinals in POI, finishing in seventh place. She also finished in the top 15 of Congressional Debate.
Wagler and Freshman Riley O’Brien’s Duo finished in the top 10 as well.
Sophomore Chris Bapst broke into semifinals in Extemporaneous Speaking, finishing in the top 10.
Chris and Freshman Kalebh Nelson’s Duo finished in the top 12.
Sophomore Julia Quintanilla finished eighth in Drama, and Sophomore Bri Lackey finished ninth. Bri also took a very impressive third place in Extemporaneous Debate.
Jarek Jeffs finished in the top 16 of Humorous Interpretation.
Kiesha Krausshar took 15th place in Informative Speaking.
Rosalie Willson and Savanna Nelson both finished in the top 25 of Poetry in a large, competitive field.
Bobcat Speech and Debate will be hosting their first in-person tournament in almost two years, and will need help from the community to pull it off.
Currently there are 12 schools registered from around the state and over 180 entries.
The one day tournament will be held at Hot Springs County High School on Saturday, February 12.
