River of Life receives hunger initiative grant

First lady Jennie Gordon’s Wyoming Hunger Initiative and the Wyoming Governor’s Residence Foundation allocated $51,751 to anti-hunger nonprofit organizations for infrastructure needs through the initiative’s third grant cycle, according to a news release.

More than 35 entities applied for Wyoming Hunger Initiative infrastructure grants. The Foundation selected 15 requests to fund, including the River of Life Fellowship.

According to Gail Schenck, the money is being used to purchase equipment that will be helpful with the movement of food within the facility and with food distribution. Schenck said they average service to 180 households.

River of Live Fellowship is also committed to assisting in the support, growth and expansion of Grow a Little Extra where community members can grow an extra row in their garden and donate the produce to the food pantry for distribution.

Food from the Field provides an opportunity for hunters to donate their game meat to food pantries statewide.

Paintrock Processing in Hyattville is a local participant. Game meat can be donated and it will then be distributed to food pantries around the Big Horn Basin.
