Orphan train performance Friday

Few people today know much about the largest child migration in history. Between 1854 and 1929 over 250,000 orphans and unwanted children were taken out of New York City, put on passenger trains and sent out across the country to find new homes.

Children were sent to every state in the continental United States. Several children even came to Fremont County in the early part of the twentieth century.

Performers Phil Lancaster and Alison Moore take us on a journey alongside the Orphan Train.

Combining live music, video montage, and a dramatic reading of the 2012 novel “Riders on the Orphan Train” by award-winning author Alison Moore.

The performance will be at the Hot Springs County Library on Friday, August 20 beginning at 6:30 p.m. It is free to the public.
