Henry J. May, Jr.

Henry J. May, Jr. passed away on July 14, 2021, from complications of brain cancer at home with his wife at his side in Minneapolis, Minn.

Henry was born in Douglas, Wyo., on February 1, 1959, to Henry and Helen May, joining three siblings in Glendo, Wyo., Mary Margaret, Bernadette and Louis (Butch). In May 1967 the family relocated to Thermopolis, Wyo., where Henry attended school. He graduated as salutatorian with the class of 1977 from Hot Springs County High School. He attended the University of Kansas on a scholarship graduating with honors in 1981 with a dual major in computer science and electrical engineering.

He was employed by IBM in Rochester, Minn. On January 17, 1986, he married coworker, Dawn Dempewolf. Three children were born to this couple, Stephanie, Elizabeth and Samuel. The couple later divorced.

Henry married Anne Drolet in Burbank, Calif., on July 27, 2013. They made their home in Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota. In January 2018, Henry was diagnosed with glioblastoma multiforme 4.

He is survived by his wife, Anne of Minneapolis; daughters, Elizabeth May of Memphis, Tenn., and Stephanie Ezra of Scottsdale, Ariz.; mother, Helen May of Lander, Wyo.; sisters, Mary Margaret Wells of Lander, Wyo., and Bernadette Mitchell of Bainbridge Island, Wash.; four grandchildren; two nieces; one nephew; one grandnephew; and many cousins.

Henry was preceded in death by his father, Henry; son, Samuel; and brother, Louis (Butch).

Memorial services will be held in Minneapolis on August 14 and in Thermopolis at a future date. He chose to donate his body to the Anatomy Bequest Program at the University of Minnesota Medical School. Memorials in Henry's name may be made to the American Brain Tumor Association, University of Kansas Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Student Development Fund, or Prepare and Prosper, St. Paul, Minnesota.
