Town moving forward with online payments

At the first monthly meeting for July, the Thermopolis Town Council voted and approved catering permits for the month.

Town engineer Anthony Barnett reported that he worked with Assistant to Mayor Fred Crosby and Town Clerk / Treasurer Tracy Van Heule to pick dates to advertise for the chip seal project to request bids starting July 29. They will have it ready to present to the town council for an award on August 3. Barnett also reported that cell nine at the landfill is almost full.

Director of Public Works Ernie Slagle reported that the deraggers in the state park are still working. Since June 3 they have not needed to pull any off from operation. However, the main lift station pumps are giving them trouble. Slagle plans on pulling one out and sending it for repair; however, repairing takes months of time to perform.

For codes administration Crosby reported that building has been very slow and he speculates it is due to the exploding cost of lumber.

Van Heule reported that for the online payment system for town fees and bills, they have chosen a day for training from the software developer and are waiting for them to respond. They have not heard back.

Responding to the subject about online payments, Barnett asked if the council would object to creating an online process for bids. He said that when bids come in on physical paperwork often the applications are not filled out completely or correctly and include incorrect calculations.

If the applications were made strictly online, they could avoid these issues and save people’s time and money. Barnett said it would improve efficiency. He added that many other towns and counties have transitioned to an online process. Mayor Mike Chimenti said they could look into it.
