Our view - Support your neighbors

As Governor Mark Gordon and the Wyoming Department of Public Health announced the most recent orders regarding COVID-19 closures and restrictions on Tuesday, it is important for all of us to remember to support our local businesses through this challenging time.

Local businesses are essential to our economy. They provide employment and support the local economies, communities and neighborhoods.

Most are feeling a financial strain right now, and are worried about the future. If you are still working, getting a paycheck and can afford it, consider investing a small amount into our local businesses who are struggling.

An easy way to do this is to buy a gift card now, use it later and provide your favorite business with much needed income through this difficult time.

While you’re at it, see if you can make time to take a road trip. Literally, burn a little fuel. The fill up won’t cost that much.

The world is suffering from too much oil as coronavirus lockdowns on driving, flying and industrial activity have all but eliminated the need for it.

Here in Wyoming, we are free to take a drive and check out the scenery, while still adhering to social distancing.

In fact, many of us in Wyoming actively practiced social distancing before it became popular.

The drop in oil prices has rocked Wyoming and caused a number of layoffs throughout the industry. Combined with the coal industry layoffs and closure orders due to COVID-19, Wyoming’s economy has been hit hard.

Whenever possible, support your local businesses and help make Wyoming’s economy healthy again.
