Our view - Come together

Without a doubt we are living in a very strange time in our country right now. Many are essentially barricaded behind their front doors while others are considered essential, working their way through each day.

Those essential workers are faced with being exposed to more than just a deadly virus.

Some are being yelled at because a certain item is not on the store shelf. It isn’t up to them what does and does not get delivered on a particular day, but some are taking their frustrations out on the person behind the cash register.

Some are going after community members with hurtful comments on social media.

We are better than this.

Essential workers are doing their absolute best during a time when everything in the world is turned upside down and they do not deserve to be treated with anything other than respect and kindness.

It isn’t brave to spend your time behind a keyboard pounding away your frustration at those who are doing jobs no one else can do right now. If you have a problem, step up and speak with the people who do have the power to change things – managers, teachers, owners, etc.

We understand many people these days are distrustful of the media, too, and that is disheartening for those of us that are doing everything we can to keep you informed and bring you the facts.

Everything we print is based on our attendance at meetings or things that come directly from sources such as the governor’s office, homeland security and local health officials. We’re doing our best to bring you the truth, even if it doesn’t match with what you’ve read on the Internet or heard from your next door neighbor.

Let’s face it, there is a lot of misinformation and conspiracy theories being bandied about during a time when people are frightened and unsure what tomorrow will bring. All of us are looking for a light at the end of this strange tunnel.

In the end, we are all working to try to make this period in our world a little less frightening.
