Valedictorians, salutatorian named

Hot Springs County High School's Valedictorian and Salutatorian have been chosen for the Class of 2020.

Breeze Petty and Tyler Kay have earned co-Valedictorian honors, sharing a 4.32 weighted cumulative GPA as a result of earning straight A's throughout high school while taking numerous 1000 level college classes.

The new Wyoming Hathaway weighted GPA requires students seeking top honors to take a more rigorous route through high school in preparation for college, career and military readiness.

The Class of 2020 was highly competitive with McKenna Bomengen earning salutatorian honors with a 4.30 weighted GPA.

Bomengen was followed closely by the top ten classmates, all with weighted GPA's of 4.0 and above. They include Hannah Hu, Kaylee DeVries, Olivia Weyer, Ashley McPhie, Dani Jo Pebbles, Ashley Brawley, Tahja Hunt, Jasman Steadman, Audrey Axtell and Taydee Landrum.

"This is the first Hot Springs County High School graduating class to have the additional rigor of a weighted GPA to earn the highest honors, and they more than accepted the challenge," said principal Breez Daniels.

"All of us at Hot Springs County High School are proud of this class and their exceptional achievements. The academic achievements of the Class of 2020 is indicative of our clear focus on student learning and the combined hard work of both students and staff in the Hot Springs County School District."
